Slide 1: ==== ==== Click here to learn how to grow your own strawberries http://asseenonpc.directtrack.com/z/17351/CD4589/ ==== ==== Fresh strawberries are one of the greatest treats summer has to offer. Juicy and flavorful, they are far superior to store-purchased berries, and delicious on ice cream, cereal, cake, or just eaten straight off the vine. How do you get fresh strawberries without a vegetable garden to grow them in? By planting them in containers! Strawberries are very well-suited to container gardening. They don't need much space for their roots, but their leaves need sun. This means they like to sprawl out, tumbling over the edges of pots or hanging baskets. They are ornamental as well as delicious, with their beautiful greenery and attractive white flowers. And they survive and fruit for many years, so an initial purchase of strawberry plants can be stretched across several growing seasons. Here are three ways to grow strawberries in a container garden: 1. Hanging baskets Strawberries might have been created just for hanging baskets, they suit them so well. The elevation off the ground protects the plants from the worst insect pests, and the long vines spill over the side, finding more sun and keeping the fruit from resting on the ground. A hanging strawberry basket will continue to fruit for three years. 2. Strawberry Pots Strawberry pots are designed to work ideally with strawberry plants. They are little pots with openings in the sides as well as the top. If you plant 1-3 strawberry plants in the top of the pot, the runners that form from the maturing plants will emerge from the pockets and bear fruit. If you are looking for a quicker result, however, you can place a strawberry plant in each pocket for a larger immediate harvest. 3. Hanging Strawberry Bags These new hanging bag designs combine the best features of hanging baskets and strawberry pots. They are long bags with holes in the sides. The bag is filled with potting mix and strawberry plants are inserted into the holes along the sides -- around 15 plants per bag. As they grow, the berries and greenery will cascade down the bag, producing an abundant harvest of delicious berries. With container gardening, nearly anyone can grow fresh fruits and vegetables!
