How to restore faded headlights yourself

If you need help upgrading or restoring your faded headlamps, please visit our main website: HeadlightRestoration.net We offer many do it yourself tips and kits and we also offer many headlight accesories and upgrades including: Covers, HID and Halogen bulbs, Restoration products, Polished, Sanding discs and much more! Plastic headlight restoration is growing exponentially because auto manufacturers continue to make vehicles with plastic headlight lenses that, without proper care and maintenance, result in cloudy foggy headlights. After as little as two or three years on the road, they become so "cloudy" that they actually output less light than is needed to legally do their job. The problem affects virtually every make of car and truck, foreign or domestic.

DIY headlight restoration is time consuming, tiring, and you may not reap the quality results and benefits of a Professional Headlight Restoration. Lastly, DIY (do it yourself) headlight restoration's will only last about 3 months. Professional Headlight Restoration can last for years to come. Do not waste your money on Headlight Restoration Kits. Follow the below instructions if you want to DIY (do it yourself). The following supplies will be required: Note: If you decide to use a hand drill you will need 3" sand paper and a 3" buffer pad. Be sure not to sand in the same area for long periods of time or you will damage your headlight lenses. Wet sanding is not required. Wet sanding will not give you better results. 320 grit sand paper 600 grit sand paper 1500 grit sand paper 3000 grit sand paper 4000 grit sand paper (optional) painter's tape bottle of spray water Industrial strength degreaser cleaner car wax (plastic protectant) clean rags drill w/attachments (optional)
Slide 2: buffer pad for drill (optional) dust mask Step 1 Clean the entire surface of your headlights with industrial strength cleaner/degreaser. Tape off the surrounding area of your vehicle's headlight lens's with painters tape to avoid damage to your vehicles paint job. Put on your dust mask. Your gonna need it! Step 2 Begin sanding with 320 grit sand paper. Ensure that you remove all surface damage. Sand the entire lens of your headlights. Spray the headlight lenses with water. Wipe the lenses clean. You will notice that the headlights are foggy. It's now time for step 3. Step 3 Begin sanding with 600 grit sand paper. Sand the entire lens of your headlights. Focus on removing scratches from your headlight lenses. Spray water on the lenses and wipe them clean. The lenses will still be foggy but a little bit clearer. Are you tired yet? Well, if your not, you will be. Let's ease on down the road. It's time for step 4. Step 4 Begin sanding with 1500 grit sand paper. Sand the entire lens of your headlights. Focus on removing scratches from your headlight lenses. Spray water on the lenses and wipe them clean. The lenses will still be foggy but, you will notice that they are much clearer than before. Lets stroll on over to step 5. Step 5 Begin sanding with 3000 grit sand paper. Sand the entire lens of your headlights. Focus on removing scratches from your headlight lenses. Spray water on the lenses and wipe them clean. The lenses will still be foggy and you may not notice a difference in the clarity of the lenses. (optional) You may want to repeat step 5 using 4000 grit sand paper. Are you tired yet? If not, you've got great stamina and patience. Let's mosey on down to step 6. *Remember, you can always contact us and we will seal your headlights with our Premium Clear Coat Headlight UV Protectant. Our premium headlight UV protectant sealer will avoid you from having to restore your headlights for years! *Auto wax and plastic protectant will only last up to 3 months *You must contact us now, if you would like our MobileTechnician too apply a Premium UV Clear Coat Protectant before you apply the process of step 6.
Slide 3: Step 6 Apply a generous amount of auto wax or plastic protectant on your rag or your buffer wheel (I said generous not the whole bottle). Buff the headlight lenses.
