Use the information available instead of giving up. I would like to outline some tips beginners may find useful. Make sure that some time is allocated each day to practice your meditative techniques. Twice a day is recommended. Meditation can only be mastered if it is sufficiently practiced. Always begin with concentration on your breathing process. Breath has been associated with life since the beginning of time and it is an important part of the meditative process. Stretching before you begin a session can help you feel more comfortable in your chosen position. Ensure that the object of your session is clear and meditate with enthusiasm. Focusing of attention and calming the mind isn't always easy, therefore you must have the perseverance to continue trying. Frustration is very common for beginners. It is important to acknowledge this frustration and re-focus attention on breathing. Let the frustrated feelings go. Don't be afraid to experience new techniques and methods. You will only find out what works well for you if you have experimented with various techniques. For example, if sitting meditation is uncomfortable for you, don't give up on meditation altogether. Try lying down or standing up. Finding the right place to meditate is very important. Of course, make sure that it is a place where you will not be disturbed, and do not choose a room where you work or sleep. Thoughts on these activities could be distracting. Remember that there is much information available. It is often helpful to read an interesting book on meditation or listen to instructional CD's. An important meditation tip which is often mentioned is to meditate early in the morning. It is vital that your mind is fresh as it is difficult to concentrate when we are overtired. Putting your focus on the flickering flame of a candle is another technique found useful by beginners. The flame will help you to strengthen your attention. Stress may be one of the hardest things for the beginner to overcome. Try not to stress about anything that happens during your session. Learn to eliminate any nervous feelings before meditation as well as anger or frustration after a session. Within each session, do the best you can and be satisfied with the outcome.
