You may also know that what you really need is to build a profitable email list if you are to make any money at all. Building a profitable list is not as easy as some marketers make it seem. A profitable list takes time and effort and skill to build. Do you have the time? Or do you want to just send your traffic to a sales page and hope for the best? Some marketers do. It may work for you if you have the money to spare. Anyway, in this article I want to discuss some of the basic points that will help you make your list profitable. It can take time to make money once you build a list but it pays to understand that you are list building so that you can sell something to that list. This is basic but often overlooked by those who think you can just build a list and start to sell, sell, sell to it. Bear in mind that the strategies you will be employing to sell your products are not new so do not feel like you are reinventing the wheel. Before the internet people have been selling things. Goods are still being sold offline as you read this. I am sure you have seen even the basic of salespeople like the ones that go around knocking on doors trying to sell all kinds of stuff from T-shirts to perfumes to encyclopedias. These salespeople simply make direct contact with the would be customer to show them their wares and see if they are interested or not. In other words these people are the equivalent of what we may consider traffic or visitors to our website today. They are still human beings and we are still trying to speak to them directly (via email) and introduce them to our products. The whole idea of building a list as I hinted earlier on is to build a database of people who are a good match for what we are offering for sale or what we will eventually be offering for sale one person at a time. As an internet marketer then you can liken yourself to the door to door salesperson. So each person arrives at your website and enters their name and email address so you can follow them up later. In the offline world the salesperson was well aware that it was really a waste of time trying to sell to someone who was not at all interested in the products on offer. It simply delayed the salesperson visiting someone who was a better fit for the products on offer.
Slide 2: You can understand then why it is essential to focus on the right target market. What I mean is that just collecting a bunch of names and email addresses and saying 'I have a list of 10,000' is just not enough. You must be honest and ask yourself how many on that list are a real fit for your market. The real fit for your market are those that will buy from you. Getting the right fit for your market actually starts with your traffic source. To arrive at a profitable list you want to start off with targeted traffic. It is a waste of time and resources trying to build a list with untrusted traffic. It will pay you in the long run to use tried and tested traffic generation strategies like article marketing, blogging and forum marketing for targeted traffic. Remember, you do not make money until someone on your list actually buys what you are selling. Get the right people on your list and you can reap the profits in the list.
