ICON Leaders Day 1
Slide 2: Presentations
This mode of presentation allows all Sandhurst Teachers:
• To view the information as
presented to ICON coaches
• To facilitate discussion on the information presented • To keep all ICON participants up to date • To scaffold and help ICON leaders to present information
efficiently
Slide 3: “The Student at the Centre” Key Statement for ICON project
Joint initiative of four Vic Dioceses
Slide 4: Aims of ICON
Provide enterprise online learning systems Essentially to support contemporary learning and teaching Improve processes to make the work of leaders and teachers more efficient
Slide 5: Historical Perspective
Since 1998, Sandhurst has been using SINA as our Enterprise system MyMail, MyClasses, MyPortfolio, MyWiki, MyBlog Has become old and needs an update ICON was borne out of this need for change
Slide 6: Current Situation
Many of our schools still use MyMail and MyClasses A large number of our schools use wikis, blogs and many other Web 2.0 tools Many schools use a CMS - Content Management Systems (like Moodle) Secondary Schools often have their own systems in place
Slide 7: What is needed
We need a new Enterprise system for:
• Mail, filtering, spam, logging • User management - HR system • Overall internet connection, function and
maintenance On top of this, systems that value add to Teaching and Learning
Slide 8: Timeline
Currently, negotiations are in place between CEVN (and possibly other Dioceses around Australia) around an Enterprise solution – Ultranet is one possibility In the meantime, schools are encouraged to use online tools - the more this is encouraged and modelled, the easier it will be to enter this online world
Slide 9: Online vs. Offline
Many tasks being done manually at present, could be done electronically in an enterprise system One example could be:
Slide 10: Online vs. Offline
Online – Student Attendance Teacher clicks on to Student Attendance Module – selects all students as present Then, they deselect the students away Data is immediately in the database and accessible Census data is live
Slide 11: Online vs. Offline
Offline – Student Attendance Teacher marks each child individually on assessment folder Students take the roll to the office Admin Officer inputs data into SAS Little to no accessibility anywhere else

Extremely well designed interactive educational packages Fantastic resources: images, movies, sound bites There are also many Models of Contemporary Learning (MCLs) in Scootle – search for MCL Teachers create ‘paths’ that are accessed by students through a web link Accessed via CEVN

Slide 29: Where to from Here
Individual Schools must examine their ICT plan Secondary schools have done this as part of the DER ICT Strategic Plan to be completed by end of Term 3 Most schools will have elements of their plan throughout their school strategic plans
Slide 30: Strategic Planning
