Forums are where people with common interests congregate. To an online marketer, forums are where a whole bunch of customers in a target market hang out. Forum marketing has had it's name tarnished before due to ever-growing numbers of idiots who spam forums hoping for sales, but if done correctly, the earning potential is huge. If you're a liberal, then the purpose of forum marketing is to build a list and make sales while building long-lasting relationships with fellow members of the board. If you're a realist, then the purpose of forum marketing is to build relationships with people on the forum for the sole intention of making money from them. Either way, forum marketing involves a lot of relationship building. Finding a suitable forum in your niche is easy: just Google it. A suitable forum for forum marketing purposes is one that is posted on regularly and frequently and one that boasts a sizable member base. This is so you don't waste your time trying to market on a forum which nobody visits. The best way to go about marketing on a forum is to avoid being a marketer while you're there. Most forums allow signature files which are small blocks of space where you can have text or links to your sites. Every time you post, your signature appears right below it. Before you stick affiliate links in your signature, be sure to check each individual board if they allow them or not. You don't need to be an expert on a subject to have a reason to post regularly on a forum about that topic. Sure, people who are able to answer questions are important in forums because that's how everybody learns. However, they'd be nothing without the people who are asking the questions, so ask away, but only if you genuinely want to find out the answer. Dedicated forum members hate nothing more than to have someone barging into their community with the sole intention of selling some worthless product. Not all forums have a space dedicated to selling products, much less digital products. If you find one, then you've stumbled upon a gold mine. Chances are, however, that there won't be one, so getting more eyeballs on your signature file should be your top priority. A great way to start off is by introducing yourself. Then, you should try to start some popular threads or to add to existing ones. If you're knowledgeable enough, then answer some questions. If not, then ask some good questions. A good question is one which is tough to answer thoroughly and one which provokes thought and discussion. By posting such a question, you'll be getting lots of people to respond and discuss. As a consequence, many people will see your picture and your signature file. The more you get yourself out there, the better.
