Whether you want to or not, the reality is that choosing resume words is something you will probably experience more than once during the course of your working years. Because no two people are the same, no two resumes will be the same; however, there are some things that all of them should contain; failing to include these things will almost guarantee that your resume will not accomplish the goal of securing you an interview. A list of those things and how they could be incorporated into your writing as well as some other words of wisdom, follow. Contact information is probably the most important component in resume writing. No matter how impressive your work experience or education is, if the potential employer has no way to contact you, there will be no interview. Contact information should, of course, include your first and last name, your phone number or numbers, your email address, and your street address, though this may sometimes be omitted (if in doubt, you should include this information). Make sure your email address is not too "cute" or can be considered offensive; set up a new email account just for responses, if necessary. Also, do not include personal information such as race, age or a disability; doing so could open up all sorts of issues, including discrimination. Rewards and volunteer work, when relevant to the position being applied for, are a necessary component of a successful resume; other non-work experiences (i.e. class president, valedictorian, team or club leader, etc.) can be included as well. Remember, though, that successful writing should be concise, so only include these things if the relate to the position. Choosing the right resume words to describe your experience, education, skills, knowledge, and accomplishments is critical to getting chosen for an interview. There are words that make you stand out and words that get you ruled out! As with any writing, resume writing is a process, and to create a resume that will get you noticed, there are steps that should be followed; failing to take these particular steps will not get you an interview. The first steps include researching the company or companies you are applying with, as well as the particular position; doing this will allow you to tailor the information in your resume to that position and increase your chances of being offered an interview.
