Slide 1: O u r S a v i o u r L u t h e r a n C h u rc h • G re e n B a y, W i s c o n s i n It’s a Sweet Bitter We Lutherans pretty much have our arms around His forgiveness at the cross and the promise that Heaven is our home, all by faith in The Saviour. We know “Which way to the Promised Land” (“I am the Way the Truth and the Life, no one comes unto the Father but by me…” Jesus in John 14:6). May I slip in here, “The Four Free Gifts”? 1. He made us 2. He bought us back at the cross 3. He walks with us 4. Heaven is our home Adventure Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (Vol. 5, Issue 5) sections of the trail and some very exciting moments in our walk. There are blessings and hazards. May 2009 Pastor Dave Hatch How to do we navigate the trail? It’s a bitter sweet adventure here that needs understanding and preparation for, especially for young pilgrims. Is there a simple Bible model that could teach us? Yes! Honestly, we are trying to understand this walk down here. Some days it’s easy and some days it is not. There are down right boring I believe we have a clear understanding and a good solid instruction on Gifts 1, 2 and 4 above. But we will always be learning more about Gift 3, He walks with us. Would you agree? As we learned from the sermon on Easter, our Christian walk in this world “toward the world which is to come” can be so easily compared to the Old Testament’s account of the Exodus. There, the folks’ walked out of slavery into the wilderness toward the Promised Land. For forty years they wandered until they crossed the Jordan into the Promised Land. That walk was jam packed with blessings and hardships, just like this life. Their troubles were all brought on by them, not by God. It’s a bitter sweet adventure down here, would you agree? During the Hebrews’ wilderness walk God was with them 1 Continued on page 2
Slide 2: Continued from page 1 None Received Their Crown Membership Changes in a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Their clothes never wore out and their ankles never swelled. They had families and friends. God provided for them through water from rocks, manna from Heaven, quail and in the giving of the Ten Commandments. He’s with us too, food in our pantries, clothes in our closets, families, the church, His Word, the sacraments and in our fellowship, just to name a few. Their adventure is very comparable to ours! Pastor Dave IN: Kara Bretzman, transfer from Good Shepherd Lutheran, Howard (ELCA) Peter Bruss and children, Mary and Dominic; Profession of Faith OUT: None Weddings None Baptisms Jacob Richard Kincade Born: March 2, 2009 Baptized: April 12, 2009 Son of Matthew and Heather Kincade The Hebrews (aka Children of Israel) ran into trouble when they grew impatient, grumpy, complaining, creating a false God and testing their God given leadership. Death was also part of their story as the original walkers would pass away and a new generation would come before they crossed the Jordan into the Promised Land. Senior Pastor David H. Hatch (920) 465-8118 • dhatch@new.rr.com Associate Pastor Greg Hovland (920) 619-0917 • greg@oslc-gb.org Michelle Burhite, Church office (920) 468-4065 • info@oslc-gb.org Would you like to have a better understanding of this life, its blessings and the hardships you are experiencing? Would you like to get your hands on a snap shot view of God’s activity and provision in your life? Would you like to have a great confidence in your walk with the Saviour and where He is taking you? May I suggest reading about the Exodus in the following books and verses? • Exodus, Nehemiah 9:9ff; • Psalm 23; John 16:33. We know about death too, often experiencing our parents’ death and sometimes our children’s. We know of sin in this walk and its consequences, caused by ourselves or the consequences of someone else’s sin overlapping into our lives. Maybe we can learn from their story? I think so! God bless your adventure with Him! Our Saviour Lutheran Church • Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod • 120 S. In every aspect, the entire education system must openly glorify and please God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Slide 4: Kid’s Confirmation My name is Kody Vansistine. I attend Edison Middle School, have two pets, Sandy and Gymy and this is my story. My favorite sports are football and basketball and I watched a lot of the NCAA games. Of the Packers, I really like Greg Jennings. He is a huge part of the team, a super team player and all around good guy. When I get old enough to buy a car, I’d like a Lamborghini because they are stylish and fast! And, of course, cost a lot of money, which means I have to get a good job and earn a lot of money! Snow-boarding at Hidden Valley would be my choice of how to spend a whole day, but I would also like to go to the Bahamas where its warm and I could have fun with my family. My name is Mariah Alexander. I attend Luxemburg-Casco School, I have three brothers, and two dogs named Ollie and Jordan and this is my story. If I could change something about myself I would like to be shorter. If I had my choice of who to interview it would be Taylor Swift because she is an excellent Country singer and I really like country music. Did you say I could do anything I wanted for one day? Well, first I would go sky diving and then head for a roller coaster. For a trip, I’d enjoy going to Hawaii for the beautiful scenery. After college I’d like my own apartment and a good job. A reporter asked a parachutist, “How did you feel the first time you jumped from a airplane with nothing but a parachute on your back?” He answered with a grin, “There was only one thought: It works! It works!” What does it mean to go through life with Jesus? I can answer from experience, “It works! It works!” Tell the world! Tell your friends! Going through life with Jesus works! IT WORKS! Information My name is Marcus Lamarche. I go to school in Denmark and my great dog is named Cliff. I have a lot of favorite sports like wrestling, baseball, football and basketball. If I could, I’d love to spend a day with Packer player Aaron Rodgers. He’s from California and I’m also from California. Have lots of questions I’d like to ask. I love skiing, so I’d like a Bentley with ski racks and if I could do anything I wanted for one day I would SKI! That means I’d have to go to Colorado and just ski, ski, ski. But after college, I’ll probably go into business, with enough time off to ski!!! My name is Lydia Rusch. I go to Red Smith School have four terrific kitties, named Madison, Binx, Isis, and Ruby! This is my story. If I could change something about myself straighter hair would be my goal. Sasha Cohen is the gal I’d love to interview. I could learn a lot from her about what it takes to make a terrific ice skater like Sasha. If I inherited $5 million bucks, I’d give it all to my family and then spend the entire day skating at the rink! Tennessee. For some reason I’ve always wanted to go to Tennessee. May use a little of that money to take a trip! Professional figure skater is what my heart is set on. GOT NEWS? – Adeline, your Roving Reporter is on the hunt for the latest scoop! Call: 468-2061, E-mail: akg12525@att.net Adeline Grieser It Works! It Works! Hear The Voice of God There was a Scottish painter named Shawn. Shawn always tried to make a profit where ever he worked. One of his tricks was to thin paint with turpentine to make it go a “wee bit further.” When the largest church in town decided to spruce up, they gave Shawn the painting contract. Suddenly, there was a horrendous clap of thunder, the sky opened, sheets of water poured down, washing the thinned paint into the gutter. Shawn was knocked to the ground. As lightning flashed and thunder roared, he fell to his knees, knowing this could be judgment from the Almighty. “Oh, God,” he cried, “Forgive me! What should I do?” From the thunder came a mighty voice, “Repaint! Repaint! And thin no more!” Setting to with good will, he erected trestles and ladders and bought paint and yes, I’m sorry to say – turpentine. The day came when Shawn was putting the finishing touches on the building. 4
