Remember the play tea sets? How about the Easy Bake oven? Daughters want their fathers to play along and what our daughter will do is, pour daddy some tea and have a conversation; "Daddy how's the food?" Our little girls will go through the motion of preparing daddy a meal, cooking, serving and even have imaginary guests. They are emulating what mommy does. This is a great time to teach our daughters even while they are role playing. Your positive feedback during this role playing is important to her even though it's playtime for her. She is playing the mommy and she will treat you (during her role playing) how mommy treats you and how mommy treats her (this is why the mother daughter relationship is important as well as the husband and wife relationship.) During the role playing at your daughter's tea party, she will instruct you how to sit, eat your vegetables and tell you how you must eat all your food if you want dessert. Role play with her, it will bond the two of you together. Simple things like telling her, "Wow...This tea is great!" Or "The Dinner taste great, you're a great cook" builds her self esteem. Yes, she may be a kid and knows nothing about to spell self esteem, but she is learning. The first man our daughters learn how to interact and communicate with is her father; as our daughters grow and mature, much of what they learned in their relationship with dad influences how they will interact with young men her age. Those forming and impressionable years are vital and dads have to get it right in how we raise and love our little girls. There are no manuals, but you will find plenty of how to books. Dinner time is an important time in the home. Everyone has the opportunity to talk about their day and express how or what they feel. Time at the table is a time of learning for children; they learn how to be sociable and often times our daughters will compete for dad's attention if they see another sibling getting more than a fair share. When our daughters ask a question and they look to daddy to ask "daddy isn't that right?"if she's wrong, tell her in a way that doesn't hurt her feelings. Remember, she's impressionable. You can yet give her the correction, but let her know she's a very smart girl for asking a great question. When she seeks your approval, give it to her; let her know she is special. If you have two or more daughters, do triple in reassuring them, they are precious (Because they are). When our daughters role play, they are imitating an experience, something they learned from home or day care. In letting them role play, you can gently guide her and correct those things that need your attention.
