Well, people have tendency to talk about the bright side of the business. In this article, I would like to take your attention on the other side of the business " Complexity ". Now , a question might arise in your mind if I am against those people who wants to open a Cleaning Services Company? Absolutely not. The point I am trying to make is how exhausted you can get on your way to success. First of all, it is best to open a business that you know, you have grown with. Then you already know which steps to take to carry your business out to a good future. A Cleaning Company might look like a good opportunity to you if you know the business. Then you know how to hire, operate and compete with those big companies, franchises whose borders goes up to 100 mile every way in your area. Of course, still you need to have your place among those companies with a good plan and aggressive advertisement. Since you come from this type of business, your advantage here is that you know how to bid on contracts such as, carpet cleaning, office cleaning, windows cleaning, floor scrubbing, post construction cleaning, one time cleaning, carpet washing, and etc. Your skills combined with your knowledge, if you can stand up and do your operations for a minimum of two years , there is no reason you won't grow. On the other hand, the new comers to cleaning businesses will definitely struggle the first year of the business. How? Let me give you a couple of examples; You want to hire people, hiring and training people is not hard, but to keep them for a long time is an art. If you cannot keep a certain amount of crew in your hand, then you will always short of people and loose lots of cleaning jobs. Then, you won't make money and you won't grow. In addition to these, you should always keep 34 full time employees at all times. Advertisement, you have to have a web page to advertise. A nice webpage might costs you much. Let's say, you have your webpage ready, and you have a tight budget as a new business owner, and you want to advertise on internet, how would you advertise? Via Sponsor Pages. Now, I want you to go to Goggle and/or Yahoo Search Engine and type "Cleaning Services" or Cleaning Services NYC (your city), you will see lots of company names on the sponsor pages of these search engine and each click costs them you about $2.50 -$ 3.00 as far as I know. Say, you want to advertise same time on a couple of different search engines, and put yourself a limit of $10.00 daily for each Search Engines. $10.00 means 4 clicks, and imagine you advertise on 3 different search engines, you have to spent already $30.00 a day - $900.00 a month just for 12 clicks. 12 customers a day and 84 customers a week, the question is how many those clicks will turn into your customers? That also depends on how much you want to make from your customers, what is your overhead..? In the mean time, your competitors have their customers, and they charge less, they will save the year easily. Eventually, they work with a low profit and a high customer volume. To get those 84 customers, you need to provide that specific service they are asking for, you

Another aspect, how many of those 84 customers will call or email you regarding a specific service? The ones that call and/or email will get quotes from your competitors too since everybody is thinking of their budget. When it comes to numbers - 84 is good, when it comes to advertisement -84 is too low. When you open a company, you have lots of responsibilities; quarterly sales taxes, year round taxes, workers comp, General and liability insurance, bookkeeping (you should be doing),an accountant (monthly charges), salaries, etc. You need to learn all about these, you need to have time to learn, or you need to hire somebody depending of your budget to take care of all these. To pay all these fees, the most important thing is that you need to be making money. On the side, not to forget you have to pay your bills, rent and/or mortgage, etc... Basically, writing books, articles, and giving an impression to people to open a cleaning services company is not a hard job I believe. I am not saying those books, and articles are wrong, the idea and the methods are good. However, in the real life, you will feel like you are in a jungle and trying to survive for a certain period of time and that takes a lot from you. There are still too much to say - next time. If you don't quit, you might be successful. Remember, always gather information, and do your planning before taking a serious step. I even hear how to start a coin laundromat business. Laundry business gives you even more headache. You need to know how to fix laundry machines, laundry parts, where to order your ipso parts or wascomat parts. You need to have lots of money to establish... There is still more to say... Just do your planning....
