Slide 2: Introduction  Hope is not merely wishful thinking; it is much more than that.
Slide 3: Greek Mythology Pandora's Box  Hope was personified in Greek mythology as Elpis.  When Pandora opened Pandora's box, she let out all the evils except one: hope.
Slide 4: Greek Mythology Pandora's Box  The ancient Greeks considered hope to be as dangerous as all the world's evils, but without hope to accompany all their troubles, humanity was filled with despair.  It was a great relief when Pandora revisited her box and let out hope as well.
Slide 5: Hope - Definition  Hope is often defined as a feeling that what is desired.  It is a desire accompanied by expectation.  Hope is a belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one's life.
Slide 6: Hope Religious Definition  In a religious context, it is not considered as a physical emotion but as a spiritual grace.
Slide 7: Hope & Positive Thinking  Hope is distinct from positive thinking, which refers to a therapeutic or systematic process used in psychology for reversing pessimism.  The term false hope refers to a hope based entirely around a fantasy or an extremely unlikely outcome.
Slide 8: Main Benefits  Hope can encourage one into wishful thinking and provide optimism.  It gives off just enough light to continue on and find the way out of the darkness.  It is motivation and the foundation to build one's life upon.  Hope brings:  Strength, Joy and Peace.  Unfailing Love and Rest.
Slide 9: Being Hopeless Main Outcomes  People can live without a lot of things but no one can live without hope.  Poor motivational approach to obstacles and life (Illness).  You lose interest in any kind of investment or action that demands risks.  You don't believe in Progress & Development.  Tomorrow won’t be a bright day.
Slide 10: Hope Main Components  Hope is normally considered to involve three components:  Feeling - the expectancy of positive outcomes.  Perception – the ability to see how those positive outcomes can be reached.  Action – the activities you do to achieve your well being.
Slide 11: Hope - Conclusion  Hope is not resignation; it is a commitment to continue to struggle.  Therefore, hope creates endurance and strength in a person.  Otherwise we are simply sitting back and wishing away our life.
