Slide 1: ==== ==== For more information please go to: http://jeffknowles.com ==== ==== FAVICON Creation - How to Create a Favicon Icon A FAVICON (short for “favorite icon”) is that small icon displayed on the browser URL bar, on the bookmark lists and, for certain browsers, on the navigation tabs. A FAVICON will not change your traffic it will certainly improve the look of your blog with your company logo or perhaps a picture of you. It also helps the branding process of your site or blog. Most modern web browsers automatically look for a favicon on every site you visit. Step-by-step guide to create a FAVICON. 1. Create a 16 pixel by 16 pixel image with in your favorite graphics software or you can upload a photo or image into your favorite photo editing software. Restrict yourslef to the standard Windows 16 color. You should concentrate on a simple image such as a headshot or initials or small logo. Make sure that the color of the Favicon reflects the color of your website, so that readers will be able to associate the icon with the site and continue branding yourself. 2. After you have finished creating or editing your image, rename your image as an ICO file, named "favicon.ico". 3. Upload the favicon.ico file to your website. The common method for using a FAVICON is to simply upload it to the root directory of your public web space. This is where most web browsers automatically look for it. You can do this by using the File Manager Utility in cpanel of your domain hosting site such or your favorite ftp program to upload the file. If you have placed your favicon.ico file in a location other than the the root directory of your site, you have to help your visitors' browser locate the FAVICON file by specifying it with a tag like the following in the section of your web page. Everything should be in place now, just open your browser and point to your site to check whether the FAVICON is appearing or not. Bookmark the site and open a couple of tabs to see how the FAVICON is looking, if you do not like it just go back to the drawing board.
