The iPad has a gorgeous IPS display and is well suited for eBook reading. That is the core reason you see so many quality PDF reader apps for the iOS platform. Let us take a quick glance at some of the features a PDF reader should have. 1) Searching: If you are planning to store a collection of searchable books, you will find this feature to be a must have. Except for the iBooks, all the readers have a search feature. But the best one is the iReader PDF reader that allows the users to search your entire PDF library. 2) Keeping multiple documents open at same time: Only two apps offer this feature - iRead and iAnnotate. Having this features allow you to easily switch between documents. 3) Annotating and highlighting: iAnnotate offers both of these features and is pretty close to its desktop version. The app allows you to zoom in on a page and add a drawing or handwriting annotation. iBooks also has annotation support, but one cannot annotate PDF files. 4) Support for Table of Contents: All popular PDF readers - iRead PDF, Goodreader, ReaddleDocs and iAnnotate offer TOC feature. ReaddleDocs, however, stands out as it is the only one that displays subsections with correct indentations. 5) Document Lock: If you share your iPad with your co-workers, then you should get an application that offers the 'document lock' feature. iBooks, Goodreader and iRead PDF, all allow you to set password for documents. 6) Thumbnail view: Thumbnail gives the user a glimpse of what is there on the page. Unfortunately, iBooks is the only app that offers this feature. Let us hope this feature comes to the commercial PDF readers as well.
