On Christmas morning people in Egypt visit friends and neighbours They take with them kaik which is a type of shortbread, which they take with them to give to the people they visit and eaten with a drink known as shortbat. Christmas Day is a public holiday for Christians.

Advent Candle In Britain people celebrate the countdown to Christmas by lighting a candle and waiting 25 days for the candle to melt. Children like to celebrate the countdown by opening a little door on a calendar. You often find a picture or a chocolate in an Advent calendar.

The meaning of Christmas is that we celebrate The birth of Jesus. Jesus was born in Bethlehem.

The fir tree has a long association with Christianity, it began in Germany almost 1,000 years ago when St Boniface, who converted the German people to Christianity, was said to have come across a group of pagans worshipping an oak tree. In anger, St Boniface is said to have cut down the oak tree and to his amazement a young fir tree sprung up from the roots of the oak tree. St Boniface took this as a sign of the Christian faith. But it was not until the 16th century that fir trees were brought indoors at Christmas time.

Many religious people in different countries like to put up Christmas decorations. Many people in Britain like to put the decorations up on a Christmas tree. Many people around the world like to put up a statue or picture of the Birth Of Jesus.
