In the original series, the captain of the USS ENTERPRISE is Captain James Tiberius Kirk (William Shatner)

He is the driving force behind the show, and ultimately, it’s star.

The first officer/science officer of the USS ENTERPRISE is the famous Spock. (Leonard Nemoy)

Spock is an alien of the race “Vulcan”. He hails from the planet of the same name.

The helmsman of the Enterprise is no other than Mr. Sulu (George Takei)
•
The helmsman’s job is to pilot the enterprise.

The red shirts are a collective of low ranking star fleet officers, equivalent to today’s expendable interns.
They are famous for beaming down to a planet with the main crew, and then not being around to beam up later.
