It's the one thing we want to do more of and always look back only to question why we didn't. However, it's not just for the sake of seeing new sights and experiencing new things as a reason to travel more. Travelling can have a great effect on your health, mentally and physically. You could argue that excessive travel, especially air travel, could be detrimental to your health, but we're just going to be looking at vacation travelling and breaks away. Physically, the types of holiday can have varying effects on the body. Backpack travellers will see a benefit to their trip, whereas beach holidays will have the opposite effect. This is common sense, but what's the science behind a healthy backpacking trip? Walking is as a means of getting from A to B is a necessity when backpacking, whether it's in the remote countryside or in a city, there will be a budget that needs to be followed. That's means less automation and more leg movement. Walking is actually a great way to stay fit and can burn more calories over a longer period of time instead of short bursts of jogging or running. There is also the issue of getting up earlier to sight-see and keep on top of the itinerary. This has fairly significant effects on the body, by waking up the metabolism at an optimum time and burning fat. Of course, there is the main reason for holidaying and that's to get a tan. There is no doubt that a good tan can make you look healthier. This obviously has its risks as well, so using sun screen and taking regular breaks in the shade is something to be stressed. The mental effects of holidaying can seem minimal at the start of the trip. Trying to keep tabs on the passport, boarding tickets and family members isn't fun, but the benefits are subliminal. The organising and management of booking a holiday and getting there is on a par with even the most successful business project manager. Leaving the mind to go blank can force bad habits, so waking it up with drive and ambition for a holiday is considered to be positive for life skills. The brief moment of mayhem before reaching the destination is an unfortunate necessity, but once at the holiday location, you can forget all that running around that got you to where you are. This is the moment when you get to reset your brain and start forgetting the 9 to 5, politics, global warming and any other headaches. Everyone knows that stress is detrimental to health and can cause all kinds of nasty ailments to arise. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to realise that holidays will reduce stress and this is one of the main reasons many people take them.
