Slide 1: SYMPTOMS OF STREP THROAT When you have a sore throat, how do you know when it is strep throat and not just an ordinary  sore throat? We all get sore throats from time to time. Most often, they go away when you treat them with  some cough suppressant, pain reliever, or throat lozenges.  Sometimes they go away on their  own. When they do not go away after a reasonable amount of time, you must consider you have  strep throat. The streptococcal bacteria causes   strep throat. Many types of strep bacteria exist. Some are  more serious than others are. You   most   likely   do   not   have   strep   throat   if   you   have   the   typical   cold   symptoms   such   as  coughing,   sneezing,   or   a   runny  nose. How   do   you   know   you   have  strep   throat?   What   are   the  symptoms of this affliction? You can identify signs of strep throat by the following symptoms.  1. Severe or rapid ongoing sore throat.  2. You will probably have difficulty swallowing with lots of pain.  3. If you have a fever over 101 degrees F accompanied by the other symptoms, you might have  strep throat. 4. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck are another sure sign you have strep throat. 5. White spots or a coating on the throat is an additional symptom of strep throat. signsofstrepthroat.org @ 2011
Slide 2: 6. Dark spots located on the roof of the mouth are a symptom. 7. Swollen tonsils can be a symptom if you rule out a virus. 8. These symptoms can be accompanied by headache and pain in the stomach. Since sore throats can be a symptom of many other problems such as mononucleosis, you want  to have any problem like this checked out by a doctor.  Most sore throats are caused by a viral infection and in most cases do not involve the strep  bacteria. If you suspect you, have strep throat you can tell by checking the symptoms above. You can  accompany that with the knowledge that   the streptococcal bacteria causes strep throat,   and  not a virus. Therefore, the symptoms will be slightly different. If you have a high fever, headache, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and a coating or spots on  the throat or roof of the mouth, you can be reasonably sure these are signs of a strep throat. It’s  time to see the doctor. Strep throat treatment is easy and usually goes away in a week or so.  Antibiotics can help with the symptoms, but it just takes time for the body to work through the  affliction.
