The magician pulls out a large manila envelope. "Obviously I can't tell you what the prediction was. Because it then might not come true." He pulls out a deck of alphabet cards and gives them a brief shuffle. He walks over to a nearby spectator and instructs him to hold out his hand. He starts to deal the cards into his palm. "Tell me to stop whenever you like." The spectator stops after a few cards. The magician gets rid of the leftover cards. "Now sir, would you be so kind as to divide these cards into three packets." He demonstrates this to the spectator by dealing them from the top into three piles. "Now take the top three cards and hold on to them. Please don't show any body what they are." "Now before this show I asked two people to think of two different things and to tell no one, including myself. If you two would please stand up." Two spectators stand up. The magician lifts up his prediction envelope and pulls out a marking pen. He points to one spectator, "What number are you thinking of?" They call out, "392". The magician writes this on the envelope. He looks at the volunteer with the cards. "What three letters are you holding?" He answers, "Kwt". The magician writes these letter on to the envelope. He then rips it open to pull out what appears to be the back of a license plate. "What I didn't mention was that I ripped off my prediction." Looking at the other spectator, "And what state are you thinking of?" "Florida" The license plate is turned to reveal, KWT 392, FLORIDA. METHOD All three of the predictions are forced. Two of them are forced before the show. One spectator is asked to memorize one state chosen from a packet of state flash cards (Any method of forcing will suffice). The other spectator is asked to pick a card with 3 numbers written across it (same
Slide 2: method). The final force is the one that takes place in front of the audience. The three letters start as the top most three cards in the pack of alphabet cards. All though you give the deck a brief shuffle, you retain those three cards on top. When the cards are dealt into the volunteer's hand the force cards get moved into the bottom position. When they are dealt into three piles they end up as the top three. Note however that they are not in any particular order. It is important to have the spectator call out the cards and then repeat them in the order in which they appear on the license plate. For example if they say "WTK", you would respond by first writing the letter "K" then "WT". Since the letters are treated as discreet items and not a word, this is acceptable. It is also important to note that when you "Prep" an audience member before your show that they have been properly coached into how to respond - without them realizing that they are coached. The effect should be just as amazing to them as it is to everyone else. MATERIALS YOU NEED TO PERFORM THIS TRICK 1 license plate 1 large manila envelope 1 pack of state flash cards 1 pack of cards with numbers written on them 1 pack of alphabet flash cards. NOTES If you are looking for a more "pure" looking effect and don't mind the extra work, you can set-up all the volunteers beforehand. Have them do all the counting and other stuff before the show - just be careful, people are known to forget things. Having them write down what they "chose" will help deliver you from a few potential embarrassing moments. For added humor, let a few car stealing tools fall out of the envelope when you reveal your prediction.
