Slide 1: ==== ==== Thrifty Living Info You Need to See Visit: Thrifty Living ==== ==== By Denise Aron Are you feeling the pain of just not having enough money? Many of us are experiencing the effects of unemployment, reduced job hours, working part-time only, reduced wages, or just not having enough money to go around. This can definitely lead to depression, sadness, and a feeling of helplessness! With the unemployment rate at still an all time high, gas prices on the rise, grocery prices increasing, many are unsure of what to do and how to do it. Whether you're single, married, divorced, or in a domestic partnership we all have to pay bills! How do we do it all and still stay sane? The first thing to remember is that you can't do it alone. When life's financial stresses hit you, you need someone to talk to or vent to. Whether that's a friend, your partner, or God, sharing your burdens without shame can really help release stress! You might be surprised at how many people are going through similar things. Being able to relate and share another person's problems helps take the emphasis off yourself. But don't become a burden! Exercise is also a good tool. Taking a walk, exercising by television with the health & fitness channels, playing racquetball, or whatever you enjoy releases the natural endorphins in the brain that helps you relax and sleep better. There are several things you can do to help lower some of your monthly bills. Use ceiling or floor fans in the summer to help cool your house down so you can raise your thermostat and use floor heaters in the winter to lower thermostat. Make sure you use window treatments and/or window blinds in the summer. Seal all cracks and openings around your doors and windows to prevent air from seeping out. Change Air Conditioner filters at least once a month. And, make sure your outdoor Air Conditioner unit is clean and free of clogging dirt so it has room to breathe. Make sure there are no bushes and/or other objects blocking the flow of air. Also, you can take a 5 minute shower instead of a 8 minute shower. It all adds up! You can also, save money on your Cable or Satellite bill by eliminating those premium channels until you get back on your feet. Those extra sports channels have to go! If you're working, take your lunch to work. You'll definitely save money. Find out if you can car pool with someone who lives your area. If you're out of work, of course, Unemployment Benefits are available. You may think, that's not enough money! But it is something. There are free programs available that gives money for vehicles, car insurance, education, and clothing. Do your research! There are also benefits for low-income families with children that gives food allowances and helps with medical bills. Don't be embarrassed to accept help when needed. Everyone needs help at times in their lives. Make sure that you update your Cover Letter and Resume, and you consistently seek employment. Sometimes looking for a job is a full-time job. But, don't give up! Just when it seems as if nothing is happening you'll get that phone call you've been waiting for. Remember, hard times never last forever. Life is a season of ups and downs. Enjoy the ups and remember you'll come through the down times if you keep fighting! You're stronger than you think. Finally, stop to "smell the roses". Look around, there are many great blesses around you! There are
Slide 2: many in worst situations than you. Write down all the things you are grateful for and you will find yourself less depressed and sad. And, before you know it your life will be back on track!
