Slide 1: What is the need and purpose of electric transformer? The most important thing in people life is electricity. If you don’t have current at your home even for half an hour you would make ten calls to the electricity department to know what is wrong with the transformer. Now you almost find a separate electric transformer for an individual apartments or business center. It makes the job for the electrician a lot easier. The usages of electricity in our daily life are refrigerator, lights, fans, air conditioner, chargers, electrical equipments of kitchen and of course television. Save the electricity which indeed saves the environment. It takes lot of effort for generating electricity to your place. So switch off the unnecessary lights or any electronic items if you aren’t working on that. A transformer which produces or supplies current by switching from high voltage to low voltage is known as electric transformer. Michael faraday was the first person to describe the principles of transformer in 1831. These can transfer the current with the help of electromagnetic induction which switches from circuit to circuit. The electrical transformer contains more than two coils known as the windings. These coils are generally mantled around ferromagnetic core. The current in primary winding in transformer produces magnetic flux which in turns in to secondary winding through the magnetic field. You can see the transformers in single of there phase configuration. The transformer transfer the electricity which is generated from the fossil fuel other wise known as power plant or water to your home. There is high voltage at power plant which is reduced before it reaching it particular destination. You can identify the power of voltage just by seeing at the transformer. The high voltage is recognized by more coils where as low voltage has less coils. The classifications of electric transformer are voltage, one or three phases, enclosed and many others. The cores in the transformer are generally laminate or toroidal. The advantages provided by the toroidal cores are less noise and magnetic leakage and are smaller and light weight. A sheet of magnet is covered by another with oxide or varnish in a laminated core. These are known as laminated steel cores. The other sorts of transformers is isolated, step - up, step - down, power, current, high and low voltage and audio transformer. The step up and step down are used for increasing and decreasing the voltages respectively. The electric power factories use the current transformer for metering and facilitating the measures of large or high transformer voltage. The push and pull amplifier are designed for audio frequency transformer. For eliminating the coupling of two circuits with balanced windings, isolation transformers are utilized. The electrostatic shields are for supplying the current to delicate or tender equipments like electronic items.
