Visual Diversion strives to bring you high quality photos from a broad range of subjects including cityscape, landscape, macro, people, nature and travel.
Slide 1: By: Matt Rhodes
Slide 2: I’m a Junior. =) Started photography (excluding disposables) 5 years ago. Focus on Nature/Landscapes, but I stepped out of my box a lot last year. My tools of the trade: Digital Canon Rebel Xti. 18-55mm lens, 55-250mm lens, a few filters, a tripod, Photoshop CS4, Wacom Intuous4 6x8 Drawing Tablet.
Slide 3: I took this project up in the Sequoias on a Hiking Trail about a mile away from my Cabin up there. The trail is called Sunset Ridge. I decided to change the angles and perspectives between pictures, but they’re all taken from the same place looking at the same direction.
Slide 10: Okay, so when it comes to photography my specialty is probably Landscapes, Nature, etc. and when I’m out in nature one of my biggest pet peeves is having a piece of trash ruining the scene (and the photo shot!!!) So it came to me…trash in nature doesn’t belong = Juxtaposition
Slide 17: Part 1: The first three pictures are food pictures. Self explanatory. Part 2: Attack of the LadyBugs. This one’s a bit more creative. Up in the Sequoias the ladybugs breed in incredible quantities, and if you time it right and know where to look you can find millions of ladybugs. Once I was covered by them, and so I decided to recreate the effect and then add a bit more.
Slide 38: Photo 1 and 2: Santa Paula Police Photos 3-6: Ventura County Fair
Slide 45: We all know how much Mrs. Ravitch loves to say that trees don’t make a good photo subject…so for this project I set out to do just that. And to make it harder, I decided to Fill the Frame with simply the bark and have nothing else to “spice up” the picture. I set out to find the most interesting tree barks, and this is what I found…
Slide 52: My little secret is my cabin up in the Sequoia’s. I know now it’s not really a secret for you guys since I’ve already done a few projects up there… It’s out in the middle of the forest with nothing but nature. No cell coverage. No TV. No internet.
Slide 66:
#1: The Seagull (1975) #2: The Sky’s the Limit (1975) #3: Mountain Girl (1973) #4: Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) #5: Red Heat (1988) #6: Do Not Disturb (1999)
Slide 73:
I decided to go with what I do best, Landscapes, Nature and the like. It’s tentatively titled: Nature’s Hidden Gems or Nature’s Best Any clever suggestions for a better title? Pictures have been taken over the past few years, and are arranged in rough chronological order to show growth… hopefully! Not sure if I’m macro shots-suggestions?
Slide 93: Suggestions for title? Should I include macros?
