Online forum marketing is a great way to make money online. This is particularly true if you are new to a niche or market, but it has tremendous value for anyone who is looking to build a loyal following of subscribers. When I first was exposed to online forum marketing I looked at it the same way I looked at Twitter when it first came out. It's a bunch of people chatting about something they know nothing about because they don't have anything else to do and have too much time on their hands. Well much like Twitter, I was both wrong and right. There will always be people doing forum marketing online and using Twitter, that are full of hot air or shamelessly peddling useless goods and services. That's life. The flip side though, is you have a concentration of people who are interested in the same thing, the topic of the forum, who are asking questions and giving answers about things within that market that are likely fairly current in terms of trends and techniques. Think about that for a second. This data you have access to doing online forum marketing is data that people pay big money for and it's sitting right there for public consumption and it's free! On top of that, part of the online forum marketing process is filling out a profile and a signature, which, in most cases allows you to place one or more links in your messages leading back to what could be the solution to the problem or the answer to the question, if you do it intelligently. How likely is someone to click a link from someone who just answered their question? This type of marketing is arguably as targeted as any other out there. Yeah, maybe it's a bit tedious and maybe it's not a volume game, but as a 30 minute a day augment to your other online marketing tasks, online forum marketing is an absolute must. Particularly for people who are just starting out in Internet marketing. Here is the fundamental process. You Google any term or phrase followed by "forum" and you get a list of forums on that topic. You register (I would recommend 4 or 5) by entering a user name and password and you become a member. Then you fill out your profile, signature or resource box with interesting and informative but brief information about you. Finally you place anchor text links to your offerings where permissible. Make sure you read the rules of the forum. They vary from forum to forum and each forum has a moderator who polices unscrupulous activity and can ban offenders from being able to return. In some forums you need to post a minimum number of times to get full access to everything the forum has to offer.
Slide 2: For your online forum marketing strategy you poke around for 30 minutes a day in a few forums and answer questions on your topic. You should also ask questions as well. Each of these answers has your links attached to it and is therefore an advertisement for people to visit you. Some would say don't place links in every answer as it will appear self serving. My position is that if you provide a solid answer then it's a win win. Find a balance that suits you. As you become known for your knowledge and genuine concern, people start to grant you authority and the likelihood of them seeking out more of your wisdom rises. This could not be easier! Anyone who is starting out in Internet Marketing who is not using online forum marketing in their day to day business should seriously readdress their strategy. It's a no brainer.
