That's what happened to me about a year ago. It's important to keep changing things up because working out can become so tedious and then you just stop doing it. I was caught in a rut of bench press, flyes, military press on one day and leg exercises and curls the next. But then I opened my horizon and discovered the difference between isolation exercises and compound exercises. The fly, which works only your pectoral muscles is an example of an isolation exercise. The clean and jerk, on the other hand, is an example of a compound exercise. Compound exercises work multiple muscle groups at the same time. The clean and jerk is going to work your legs, back, abs, arms, shoulders... basically every muscle in your body. One of the major benefits of compound exercises is that they cause you to exert so much effort that they throw your body into a state of metabolic shock so that you are burning calories at a higher rate long after the workout is over. So try this workout on for size. Day 1: bent over rows, chin ups, dead lift Day 2: dips, military press, squats Day 3: Romanian or straight legged dead lift. Renegade rows, pull ups, one armed bar bell curls Day 4 Lunges, clean and jerk, bench press, dumbbell snatches. If you've noticed I've included the curl which is typically an isolation exercise. However, when you use a 45 pound straight bar with one hand it also works your sense of balance as well as your forearms. Plus, nobody else will be doing them! But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
