Slide 2: What I would do
Situation: The New England Patriots have been accused of stealing, through the use of videotape, the New York Jets defensive signals during a September 9th win in New York. The New England head coach Bill Belichick is at the forefront of the accusation. The use of videotape on the opposing team is a direct violation of the NFL policy rules. Objectives:An informational objective will be the focus of the PR campaign. The goal is to increase the public awareness of the New England Patriots side of the allegation. Since the allegations embrace legal difficulty within the NFL, our goal is to release information that is not self-incriminating, but explaining the situation. Audience:The key public to which our message will be tailored includes sports reporters and newspaper editors, mainly major players in the mass media outlet of sports. Strategy:This situation has many legal issues that must be avoided. So the main theme is to present our view/stance in relation to the allegations. Bill Belichick will be the main spokesperson because he is the General Manager as well as Head Coach, and the main target of the allegations. Reiterating as earlier, the point is to stay neutral until the NFL has made a decision after looking over all the facts, then we will clearly state our view point and issue an appeal if necessary. Tactics:1. Release a press release on the New England Patriots website in tandem with a VNR of the top officials of the Patriots explaining the situation and stance the Patriots intend to take .2. Hold a televised press conference with the head coach Bill Belichick explaining the situation and stating the New England Patriots view.3. The allegations have already gained momentum within the sports community, so any official release from the front office of the New England Patriots will be picked up in major media outlets, e.g. (ESPN, ESPN the magazine, Sports Illustrated, New York Times, Boston Herald, etc οΎ‰ ). A release specifically tailored for sports magazines and newspapers will be released.
