It is 2009 and the New Year is here! If you are like many others, you may opt to set up a New Year's resolution for yourself. But, what should it be? How can you choose the perfect New Year's resolution? Look at the main aspects of your life. These aspects might be health, family, finances or other sources of stress. Closely examine each and you may automatically get your New Year's resolution. Have you been letting your health slip? If so, make a quest to eat healthy and visit the doctor more. Have you been focusing too much on work? If so, make your New Year's resolution spending more time with family. Are you in debt? Make this your year to get out from under it. Consider your sources of stress -- what can you change to reduce the stress in any of these areas? That's it: You have found your short list of New Year's resolutions! Now, here are four keys to help you to create success with these resolutions: Key #1: Start with one. After looking at the main aspects of your life and stress sources, you may automatically come up with three (or more) different New Years resolutions. This is great, but pick one and stick with it. While you might find it easy to get out of debt or lose weight, you may find it too difficult to do both at the same time. To increase your chances of making your New Year's resolution a success, don't put too much on your plate. Key #2: Write down your options. To help you narrow down that first resolution -- the one to start on -- write down all of your options. Closely examine them and see which is most important to you. Select this as your first New Year's resolution. Key #3: Be realistic. One mistake that people make is aiming too high. While setting your sites on a goal is good, having it too high often results in disappointment. That disappointment can cause you to stop working on your resolution all together. Do you want to lose weight? Good. Instead of saying you must lose 30 pounds by March, give yourself the entire year. This way you are not in a rush. When you give yourself time to achieve your New Year's resolution, you are more likely to see it become a reality. If you set realistic goals, they will be easier to meet. Key #4: Keep your List. After selecting one goal to start on, don't throw your list of goals away. Keep it. If you meet your New Year's resolution early in the year, you can choose another resolution to work on. In fact, if you do so early, you might even find that -- before next New Year's -- you have completed all of this New Year's resolutions! I invite you to use these keys over and over to improve your life. By doing so, you give yourself an awesome gift -- to more fully enjoy your own life success!
