Slide 4: History The Lahore University of Management Sciences is a national university. It has been established by the sponsors that belong to the countries leading private and public sector corporations. The goal of this university was to be excel in academic and intellectual training and be as recognized and effective as the other universities around the world. The University first began in March 1985 and was granted a charter from the government of Pakistan, making the president the University’s Chancellor. This was when the University started providing programmes that granted degrees legally. The Board of trustees includes leaders in the business community and representatives of the government. They are to set policy guidelines for the University and review its operations. The Board of Governors who are the sponsors of LUMS, raise the funds that are needed for the University.    1986 - LUMS launches its Bussiness School with a world-class MBA programme (Suleman Dawood School of Business) 1994 – LUMS starts a BSc Honours Programme in Economics and Computer Science 1996 – LUMS starts the School of Arts and Sciences for undergraduate programme as well as master programmes in Economics, Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Also doctoral programmes in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Mathematics and the Executive MBA programme. 2002 – BA - LL.B degree was now provided 2006 – School of Humanities and Social Sciences established to cover the areas for Social Sciences, Economics and Law Departments and other departments. Future (2008) – School of Science and Engineering to be established for Mathematics and Computer Science  
Slide 5: Location  The University building is located in the Defense Housing Authority. Defense is known as one of the main suburbs in Lahore. It is close to the airport and the center of the historical part of the city.  In DHA, there are many services, shops, and restaurants. Many private schools are also located in this area.  LUMS also provides on-campus housing to its permanent and visiting faculty. It owns six residential blocks. Most of the faculty, including the international faculty lives on the campus. This gives the area an attractive and safe environment.  The University also provides a lot of facilities for the students and the faculty. Sport facilities include tennis, squash, and gym. A swimming pool should be made by the end of 2008.

Mission  "We will be a pre-eminent academic institution, serving as a catalyst for economic prosperity and social development with a focus on management of resources."  Develop high quality professionals and scholars who are committed to the pursuit of excellence, and are endowed with vision, courage, and dedication.  Improve academic and management practices in the country through the generation, assimilation, and dissemination of knowledge.  Make a significant and meaningful contribution towards the social and economic betterment of Pakistan through development of its human resources.  Serve as an intellectual resource base in the region.

Slide 8: Financial Assistance  Merit Scholarship Top students on the admission merit list at the time of admission. For undergraduate students, it offers full tuition fee for the top three (3) students.  LUMS Scholarships Excellent academic performance, or in great need.  LUMS Loan For the graduate program. This covers 20%100% of tuition fee component.
