Installation of the Google video sitemap is straight forward. It will install just like any other WordPress plugin. There are two plugins that need to be installed, the first is the video sitemap and the second plugin is called the "Flash Player Plugin". Install them both through the WordPress backend user interface. Configure the flash player plugin to match your needs. Now that both plugins are installed, create a post or page. Upload your video to your own host folder or Amazon S3 folder. Grab the URL of the video and thumbnail URL and enter them as shown here: [flashvideo file=http://pathto/video.mp4 image=http://pathto/image.gif /] Now the video sitemap will automatically pick up the video, add the title, description and thumbnail. You can see an example of the format here, http://simplestrategicmarketing.com/videositemap.xml. What this does for you is create a nice sitemap like the one shown in this article. That sitemap is indexed by Google and the videos will show up in the search criteria. For example if your video was about "dog food tips", then your video would show up in the search engines when someone searches for the phrase "dog food tips". Not many marketers use videos to market through their own sites. The benefits are lower competition and a more professional look and feel. You will rank better and drive more traffic.

YouTube videos do show up in the search engines, yet a person first needs to click through to a YouTube video and then take an extra step to find a link in the description box to find your site. During that time a person can get distracted by other videos and you will lose the potential to get them into your site.
