In this article we'll discuss why video is so popular and some steps you need to take in order to make your videos work, and more importantly, convert your visitors into paying customers. First and foremost, why is video so popular? Well traditionally most web sites you would come across would contain a lot of ad copy and you had to read in order to find what you needed. Nowadays you can simply search for a specific topic online and more than likely come to a video that explains everything you need to know. Video marketing is great because you make an instant connection with your viewer, you can convey your message much more quickly and it is easier for the viewer to watch a video than it is for them to read a mountain of paragraphs. Whether it's convenience or we are just getting lazier as technology continues to grow, video is the new wave of information distribution. If you don't believe me, just go to YouTube and search for anything and you will most likely find a result 99% of the time. So you're a marketer and are attempting to convey a message to your target market using video? What do you do? What are the steps you need to follow in order to make your video cause your viewers to take action? Here are eight steps you should consider. (Assuming you already have a video camera and editing software) 1. Write out or plan what you are going to say in your video. Include who you are going to target, what you are going to say and include a call to action at the end of the video. 2. Rehearse what you are going to say or use your computer as a teleprompter if you can't remember what you will say. 3. Make sure your background is clean and organized. If people see you on camera and there is junk and a big mess in the background, it may divert the viewer's attention. (Perhaps your office space or maybe a nice place outside would be a good background choice. If you want, you can go professional and get a nice back drop with some good lighting.) 4. Make eye contact with the camera. Remember you are talking directly to your viewer as if they were in the same room. 5. Stay relaxed and calm. Emotions are easily picked up by that camera lens. Speak with confidence and deliver your message accordingly.
Slide 2: 6. Keep your video at a reasonable length. Most video sharing sites do not allow you to go over ten minutes. My best recommendation is to keep your videos between two and five minutes. Your viewers attention span is not long and if you don't get your message across fast they may not wait to finish the video and you more than likely just lost that visitor. 7. Have fun. When you are video marketing you are not only marketing a product or business, but you are marketing yourself. Let your personality shine through and be original. Don't try to sound gimmicky or like a salesman. Remember, your viewers are people just like you. 8. When you have uploaded your video to a video sharing website (YouTube, MetaCafe, Viddler) ensure that you place your keywords in the video title and the description so that your video can be listed in search results. Following these steps can ensure that you will get loads of traffic from your videos and guess what? It is absolutely free. But remember, just because this is a free marketing strategy doesn't not mean you can do it once and that's it. Be consistent. Continually post videos and make them full of content and value for your viewer. This will help build up your marketing presence and expand your reputation quickly. Just remember that you are producing these videos to be viewed by other people. Always keep that in mind and everything else will fall into place.
