Slide 1: How To Become A Nurse Click Here To Discover The 7 Steps To Becoming A Registered Practicing Nurse From Active Qualified Working Nurses http://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Registered-Practicing-Secrets-ebook/dp/B006OPLTN2/ How to be a Chief Nurse By the name itself, the chief nurse is the most senior nurse in the hospital. With such high position, it goes without saying that much is also expected from him or her. Hence, if you can’t eat pressure and stressors for breakfast, then you should think twice before considering this on your career trajectory. More so, being a chief nurse demands that you should be a people person which means that you should love interacting with people anytime. Being the nurse with the highest position in the hospital, it is thereby your responsibility to oversee the delivery of care on all nursing units. Moving on, it is also part of the responsibilities of the chief nurse not just to look upon the treatment that is being given to the patients, but also in ensuring patient safety and well-being. It is also your responsibility as a chief nurse to set the standards for nursing care in the hospital which also involves the importance of the competencies of the health care providers, the equipment that are available in the hospital and so on. A chief nurse is basically still a nurse, but it takes more than clinical expertise to be in this field. More than years of experience in a specific area of expertise, a chief nurse should exhibit outstanding managerial and leadership skills. If you want to be a chief nurse someday, then here are the steps that you should take: 1.) You should graduate on a four year course in nursing from an accredited school. After it, you have to take and pass the NCLEX which then, gives you your license to practice as a nurse. 2.) Once you have your license, you can already apply to different hospitals for a position as a staff nurse. You can choose to be in a special unit such as the ICU, ER, OR and so on. It really doesn’t matter since there isn’t really a requirement that a nurse should be in a certain specialization to qualify as a chief nurse someday. However, it is part of the requirements of being a chief nurse that you should have extensive work experience as a nurse in whichever specialization that you choose. 3.) Chief Nurse is the highest position in the hospital for nurses; as such common knowledge would tell you that you need to work on your credentials in order to advance to this position. 4.) You should earn your masters degree in nursing or if you desire you can even go as far as having your doctoral degree. All the steps that can boost up your status as a nurse should be well-accomplished. 5.) Of course, despite your outstanding education, you can’t still be a chief nurse if you only stay in the clinical realm of the nursing world. This means that you should apply to a different position such as
Slide 2: being in the administrative section of the hospital because this will prepare you for the job as a chief nurse. 6.) You can apply as a chief nurse in small hospitals or facilities if you want a higher chance of being hired for the said position considering that hiring for chief nurse is really rare and this will still be your first time to be a chief nurse.
