Slide 1: Research Resources
Slide 2:  The student will plan and begin the research process in order to find and organize information effectively.  Finding and processing information is a lifelong skill whether you do it formally or informally!
Slide 3:  Located near the encyclopedias on the left side of library, they have bright orange dots.  May only be used in the library.  Use catalog at http://destiny.aisd.net and click on the catalog tab at the top to look up books.  If the books are not on the reserve shelf, check the other shelves.  Can’t find a book in the catalog, browse the reserve shelf for books that may have your person in them. Check the index of the books!
Slide 4: Require username/password. Different Works Cited citation format than website!  Accurate, up-to-date, trustworthy, well-written  Citations for your Works Cited page provided at the end of each article or click on “Cite” or “Citation”. *See the librarian if you can’t find the citation. Always proofread your citation or check at www.easybib.com.   Go to http://destiny.aisd.net and scroll down to see the databases & online encyclopedias.
Slide 5: Facts on File Ancient & Medieval History EBSCOhost Research Databases *Click on Academic Search Complete. PowerSearch Gale Usernames and Passwords are on the circulation desk.
Slide 6:  Who wrote this and what makes him or her such an expert?  What is the purpose of this site? Don’t use it if they’re trying to persuade you to believe or buy something!  When was the site created and last updated?  Where did they get the information?  Why should I use this information instead of info. from other sites?
Slide 7: Boolean Operators: Words (AND, OR, NOT) that you can use in a search box to get more or less search results in the catalog, database, or on the internet. Plagiarism: Using someone else’s words/ideas without giving him or her credit. How to Avoid 1. Parenthetical citations in the essay 2. Works Cited page at the end of the essay * See your citation packet from Mrs. Severns.
