Slide 1: Kindle Fire: How Does It Stand Up To Its Competitors?
Is it time to upgrade to a Kindle Fire, or maybe this is your first tablet and you are considering what to get? Let’s see what the Kindle Fire has to offer and how it compares to its competitors, the Apple iPad2 and B&N’s Nook Tablet. Price: We’ll get the price out of the way first. The Kindle Fire retails at $199. Next up is the B&N Nook Tablet at $249, followed by the Apple iPad2 for $499-$829. Certainly the Kindle Fire is less expensive, but let’s see the comparative value in terms of features and functionality.
Slide 2: Summation Pros/Cons Kindle Fire is the least expensive; very light weight; has the longest battery life; unlimited cloud storage so you never have to worry about memory. It does not have a built in camera. B&N Nook is reasonably priced; has the largest built in storage; light weight; longest battery life. It has no camera and has the least number of apps available. Apple iPad2 by far has the largest quantity of apps available; has considerably larger screen size; has larger capacity; has front and back cameras. It is considerably more expensive and heavier; has the shortest battery life. What We Particularly Like: We opt for the Kindle Fire as it has all the features we want at a price that we feel is affordable. Apple’s iPad2 certainly has more goodies, but we do not feel the perks compensate for such an elevated price. Here are some features of the Kindle Fire that particularly please us. It feels good in the hands, with a textured, rubberized back that keeps it from slipping. It feels solid and the screen is very good to view without glare. Our files are stored on the Amazon Cloud, and we can download them to this device or to our computer, which we find to be very convenient.
Slide 3: Stream videos with Amazon’s Prime, or download from Netflix or Hulu, plus other sites. It’s easy to read books, magazines or newspaper as the screen is crisp and clear, plus has a back light so you can read in limited light. The browser is fast. Overall, we are very pleased with the Kindle Fire and find it more affordable and a greater value than its competitors the iPad2 and B&N Nook Tablet.
