No matter how many crunches you do, how little you eat, the fat around your mid-section still remains. But don't blame your fitness regimen for it - the body has a natural tendency to store fat around the stomach, thighs and hips. Consequently, it is considerably harder to get rid of all the fat from this region. Nonetheless, losing abdominal fat is quite easy provided you follow the right weight loss plan that is tailor made for your body. The first thing you should do is determine your body type. Physiologically, there are three broad body types: 1. Ectomorph If you are naturally skinny and can't gain weight no matter what you do, you are an Ectomorph. If you are reading this article, chances are, you don't really fall in this category. 2. Mesomorph If you naturally have a lot of muscle and find it easy to gain as well as lose weight, you would fall in this category. 3. Endomorphs Endomorphs seem to have been cursed with the worst body type. People who fall in this category gain weight very easily and struggle to lose it. After you have identified your body type, it is time to focus on your fitness regimen. I hope it is no secret to you that weight loss requires two things - above average activity levels, and below average calories in your diet. I won't go into the details of diet in this article but focus more on exercise and activity levels. I believe the greatest harm to our mid-sections has been done by the 'jogging' campaigns of the 70s and 80s. During those periods, jogging was equated with leading a healthy lifestyle and losing weight. That perception is still held true for most people who jog for hours without seeing any significant change in their weight. Jogging for the sake of staying healthy is a fine activity. After all, it gets your cardiovascular system working and is a great stress buster. But jogging and other 'slow' exercises aren't really the best antidote for weight loss. To lose weight, you must 'shock' your body into believing that unless it gets rid of the abdominal fat, it could be in considerable danger. Please understand that for thousands of years, excessive fat was

This, of course, doesn't hold true any longer when all you need to do when you're hungry is to visit the nearby fast food joint. Therefore, you really have to convince the body to lose fat. Jogging, unfortunately, doesn't do the trick. Rather, you need to perform high-intensity exercises that will trigger weight loss dramatically. Low intensity exercises just end up building stamina and don't result in weight loss as the body gets used to them very easily. Try sprinting instead of running. A particular technique called interval training is devastatingly effective: you start off with a light jog for 2 minutes, then switch to an all out sprint for 30 seconds, then continue at a light jog for 2 minutes. Keep doing this as long as your don't get REALLY tired. Trust me, within 5 minutes, your body will be screaming for oxygen with such a routine. Same goes for other exercises such as cycling, swimming, etc. Instead of incresing the duration, try increasing the speed. This is a much better way to make your body believe that losing weight is essential. The results with this method are much faster. Losing abdominal fat won't be as big a challenge if you can follow such a routine for just 2 months. And once you see the results, you will be that much more inclined to keep on working out.
