Slide 1: "Wasted land!" (by Michiel Martens and Susanne Feldt) timeline 2008-2030 THE NETHERLANDS POLITICS The enlargement of the European Union affected that all the industry moved to East Europe (cheap salary, low production prices, ..). The West ran empty. The Netherlands saw that trend early enough and reacted against it. 2011 The Netherlands created easy rules for industry to produce cheap, without many environmental rules. It went really well, the land got super polluted. Companies payed a lot money. The state became very rich, but the nature got almost completely destroyed. The EU directed Holland as "the waste bin of Europe". These affected also the countries around the Netherlands. Hole Europe get polluted just in East Europe is some nature left. LIVING Communities are the bricks of the economy. People realized that everyone has to work together to create a change. It requires all to be part of it. People live in groups, have their personal private space but spent most of their time in the shared community centers. These centers are the heart of the communities, there the people eat, socialize, have fun and educate the youth. All communities are working together through a united structure. The contact between the community centers is close, people visit each other, do courses, education, eat and sport together. The idealism of the centers is based on the same interests, needs, values and crafts of the people living there and there is a large exchange between the centers, based on knowledge. EDUCATION There is more practical learning than studying in a schools. The older people teach the young based on their experience. What can't be learned directly in the communities is taught virtual over the Internet communities. These communities work together as knowledge platform(global). WORK Every person works in his or her profession branch but everybody works also local in one of their communities. In the communities the work is quite basic but very rewarding and cultural accepted. People are no only trading goods and services with no basis of any currency, but more
Slide 2: favors, trust and the idea of sharing. FOOD Every community has their own herd of animals, they are looking after them. The communities slaughter the animals and share the gains with other commies. The farm animals are sponsored by the new "Ministry of nature reclamation". The people care about ecological food and goods. On the top and attached to the buildings greenhouses are built. The people grow their own plants, vegetables, fruits and other eatable and stimulating means. HEALTH These greenhouses are also important to clean the polluted air. The fresh air is filtered and will transported over pipes to the buildings. Most people got breathing problems. Therefore it was necessary to wear a gas mask on the streets. NATURE Nature is so polluted and there is almost no place for recreation left so people have to travel far for their needs. To rescue the nature the Dutch created giant greenhouse-parks, filled with filtered air and clean regulated atmosphere. The fresh air is pumped into the the cities. The Hodge Veluwe is one of the few places left with real nature but because of the high population it is very crowded. Every citizen has the right to go to this place three times a year. You have to book it in advance. A special offer is the visit of the "breathing room" on top of the greenhouse. The people can experience the huge amount of fresh air. It is a spiritual experience which is also supported with the consumption of drugs. RELIGION There is a new natural religion, its combines nature, a way of living, group ceremonies. Natural drugs are everywhere accepted and the ideology of taking homegrown drugs is supported by the government, it still forbidden to use hard drugs. There is high social awareness. With food feast and dancing ceremonies the goddesses of the nature are worshiped. PEOPLE People are highly aware of global well being. They are working to create a better world for their children, living in such way nature is the less effected. They have enough money to choose the goods, which are the most nature friendly. The values have been changed. The communities are working to restore nature, to create a better environment. But there is also a high social-control by the communities. You have to be involved in the communities.
Slide 3: TRANSPORT Transportation has become public since November 2021, private single person transport in cars is illegal. Exceptions are emergencies. People are forced to travel in groups. The public system is so expanded and high quality people can travel everywhere. It is organized by the government and every person pays an amount of money each month linked to the income. Many people move by bike. There is a special bike lessons and bike licence for foreign people. Travel to other countries is done by trains. Airplanes fly only intercontinental. Travelling is very popular. Especially nature trips to other counties. PUBLIC SPACE The public space/ architecture and city planning is based on nature and the reclamation of it. Every house, gap, street, corner, ally every wall is used as a place to let plants grow. A new architecture is created, concrete and bricks are modulated to growth profanes. Plants become part of the construction. They filter the air, reduce noise and create local mini ecosystems. Houses are rebuild in natural material, they are not lasting for ever but slowly overgrown by plants and vegetation. AMUSEMENT There is a lot of free time, it is spent in gardening, working voluntarily for the community and also in sports. Many people like to go hiking, skiing, nature walks, adrenalin sports. But the people have to travel to other counties for their needs. In Holland a new generation of fitness centers appeared, which simulate outdoor sports, with clean air and holographic visuals. PEOPLE SPENT THEIR MONEY ON travelling, (especially nature trips, sport holidays, ...) parties and community amusement sports and equipment Eco orgies feasts homegrown quality gardening/ replanting of nature air filtering methods/techniques health devices art and tools PRODUCTS Because of the growth of the economy, the basics need are fulfilled and the people are spending money on the social aspects in stead of their individual needs. (People have
Slide 4: different values) There will be only products with high quality, high efficiency, long life, shared in between many people (for community living). - less luxury products PRODUCT- RELATIONSHIP Relationship is not deep. The products are shared within different communities, so there is no physical attachment. It’s more on an physical level. The products supports the relationship between the users. PRODUCT FORM Products are being passed on. They are mobile and often movable. The interfaces of products are easy to understand for everybody. Products are less ties made for a special consumer group. The product language is not strong. DESIGN there are two forms of Product design - the first one is quite reserved and functional (minimal). - less brands - the other one is inspired by nature (handmade craftsmanship as a form of selfexpression). Important for the design is always high qualities, recycled materials, Eco- friendly MATERIAL Biological materials growing (artificial)materials Products are seen as an organism, introduction of living cells Improvement of biological diversity Material, product en technology become a cluster. INTERACTION Products support the relationship between the users/communities (multiple users). Therefore the product needs to have a clear feedback and/of feed-forward, to make it usable for everyone. BUSINESSES The Internet is a great outcome for lending and borrowing initiatives, people rent out services and products easily. There are borrowing companies who lent out all kinds of stuff for cheap costs. Other companies insure products. Organic biotechnology's are very important, it is one of the biggest branches in the economy.
Slide 5: GENERAL Holland sells and rents out knowledge means and people whom are highly qualified. The Dutch are known for their brain port and export of high quality technology. People come to Holland to study, work and learn, but also because of the high spiritual experiences. DEMOGRAPHY The population is really young. Many people died on breathing problems after 2013. In 2020 the birth rate got up. There were a lot of new born (Baby Boom). Immigration is also very high, there is a lot of global movement. People are very mobile, in work, life, home etc. POLITICS Fair and flexibility to the globalisation of world business challenges of an online knowledge economy. Global agreement MOOD/ FEELING "Think global, act local!" "We can change the world together!" "Make it a better place for the children!" "Don't take more than mother earth can give!"
