Slide 1: General electric appliances home appliances General electric appliances or home appliances are electric or mechanical machines that are required to perform different household functions. They can be useful for cooking or washing. It is easier to work with them. However general electric appliances or home appliances can be classified under three broad topics namely major appliances, small appliances and consumer electronic. Major appliances are also known as domestic appliances. Large machines fall under this type of category. They serve the purpose of cooking or food preserving. Major appliances are not only used a home appliances but also as industrial, institutional and commercial purpose. There has been a complication in major appliances because various energy labelling rules had been introduced across the world. These general electric major appliances have a larger electricity requirement than standard electrical appliances can deliver. The brands for these electric appliances are Electrolux, Siemens, Hitachi, Toshiba, Whirlpool, Samsung, Bloomberg, LG and etc. Major appliances are Refrigerator, Stoves, Washing equipments, Air Conditioner to name a few. Next in category are the small appliances or brown goods. They are much smaller in size that are supposed to be portable or semi portable. The most interesting fact is that these home appliances are designed to perform the similar task as their predessers. For example a toaster is small but it has a similar performance that of a big Micro-oven. They mainly seem to have two versions such the home version and the commercial version. The home appliance may be small for being used in a home or restaurant when they are used for commercial purpose they are large and consume much more power. There are different types and example. For cooking we may use a hot plate or microoven. In case of heating we use a water heater. Coffee maker and iced tea maker can be used a beverage maker. Therefore home appliances proved to be an important part in our life. But most importantly we need to keep an eye on the safety of small appliances. They are small and provide a vital reason for house fires. The instructions should be read carefully and maintenance is equally required. The last in the category for general electrical appliances is consumer electronics or shiny goods. This mainly includes products for entertainment, office and communications. The products in this category include computers telephones, calculator, digital camera etc. These products are based on digital technology. In the year 2007 Consumer Electronic sales have an estimation of 150 billion dollars. High quantity of industries and research development programs have been set up in East Asia, especially Japan. Home appliances should be networked together and we should manage the energy distribution. We should also keep in mind that we should not power on too many appliances at a time.
