Fear can be useful at times but when you are feeling afraid with things that are not suppose to be feared, you may be having a disorder that can hinder you to enjoy some things in life - including driving your own car. One of the fears that can be frustrating and disappointing is the fear of driving and this indeed can happen to some people. Especially if you are new to driving or you just learned how to drive, you may develop an anxiety and tension when driving in open roads or when you are in heavy traffic, or when you are in intersections, roundabouts or when you are driving in bad weather. Moreover, palpitations, difficulty in breathing, profuse sweating and the feeling of dizziness may also sweep into you when your anxiety attacks, and if you are feeling these signs whenever you are on the road, you may want to learn how to overcome your fear and have a normal driving experience. Although a little anxiety in some of these instances are normal, it can become frustrating and disappointing when your fears and anxiety outweighs your interest to drive, and you end up avoiding driving. It can also be disappointing that your fears are seemed to be exaggerated that you tend to fear and become anxious and tensed of situations that are not supposed to be fearful like driving. If you are one of the persons into this situation, it is important to understand that you can indeed overcome your fear in driving and enjoy the activity as other people would. Although medications are sometimes given to pacify yourself when it comes to facing your fears, this may only be temporary. One of the treatments known to help you eliminate and overcome fear is cognitive behavioral therapy. This is often used by expert psychologists in treating phobias and addictions, thus this can also be your option to overcome your fear. In cognitive behavioral therapy, your mind will be trained to think differently of the object or task that you feared. Driving is normal but if you develop a fear on it, you may be able to change the way you think about it through cognitive behavioral therapy or CBT. Aside from CBT, there are also other techniques that can help you overcome fear. Neuro-linguistic programming or NLP hypnosis is also another thing which can help a lot in helping you retrain your subconscious mind that there is nothing to fear in such normal situations. Exposure therapy is another that can help you get rid of your fear, especially if it has become excessive and exaggerated. Relaxation techniques like meditation may also help eliminate anxiety out of your system. Aside from that, there are also a lot of self-help methods and techniques. Medications may also be given but they are just temporary and do not actually get rid of your fears.
