Slide 1: PROJECT MANAGEMENT PMBOK® Guide – Third Edition DATA SHEET SkillSoft Coverage of PMBOK® Guide – Third Edition SkillSoft worked closely with the Project Management Institute (PMI®) for several months to get a head start on developing a high-quality courseware curriculum that provides complete coverage of its new PMBOK® Guide – Third Edition standards. In an effort to offer customers a rapid courseware solution for the updated guidelines, SkillSoft worked with pre-released drafts of the PMBOK® Guide - Third Edition from PMI® in the development of 10 series of courses that provide project managers with up-to-date and thorough instruction on the new standards. New PMBOK® Guide – Third Edition On October 31, 2004 PMI® released an updated version of its PMBOK® standards to reflect the continuing evolution of project management knowledge and practices. Numerous changes are reflected in the new guide, such as: • Significant structural changes that emphasize the importance of the Project Management Process Groups • The addition of seven new processes, deletion of two processes and renaming of 13 processes • Clarification of the distinctions between product life cycle and project life cycle • Strengthened discussion of integrating project management processes and activities • Emphasis of the importance of a work breakdown structure (WBS) • New information on project cost estimates, schedule management planning, resource leveling and progress reporting • Improved distinction between project quality and product quality • Improved human resource planning and staffing management planning • Enhanced risk management planning activities • Improved discussion of inputs, tools and techniques as identified by practicing project managers SkillSoft is a PMI® Registered Education Provider SkillSoft is a PMI® Registered Education Charter Global Provider, #1008. Each of SkillSoft’s PMBOK® Guide - Third Edition aligned courses is available for contact hour credit, which is a prerequisite to sit for the certification exams. Additionally, to maintain certification PMP® holders must earn 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) every three years. SkillSoft’s new Third Edition aligned courses will also provide project managers with PDU credit that applies toward this requirement. Additionally, SkillSoft has 36 courses aligned to the PMBOK® Guide – 2000 that are approved for over 135 hours of contact hour and PDU credit. These courses are available today to assist with PMP® preparation. They will continue to provide project managers with contact hours needed for certification as well as PDUs necessary to maintain certification, until the examination is updated by PMI® in October 2005.
