Slide 1: ==== ==== Waterproofing Basement: Waterproofing the Basement http://tinyurl.com/84zy3ou ==== ==== When it comes to waterproofing the inside of your basement walls, there are many different methods of waterproofing to choose from, including waterproofing products, drains, and tiles. All vary in price, but if you find that you are having water problems in your basement, its crucial to attend to the problem right away. After all, your basement walls are the foundation of your home and you want them to be sturdy. First, consider using waterproofing products. These products require different methods of application, such as first removing any water damage signs such as mold or mildew, painting with waterproofing paint, and repairing cracks with a special compound. If your foundation is made of concrete, then you may experience cracks that are a common entry of water into your basement. Luckily, these cracks can be sealed from the inside. Epoxies or urethanes are pressure injected into the openings and penetrate the foundation through to the outside, which cuts of the path of the seepage. These repairs will last for a long time and many contractors even provide 10-year to lifetime warranties on these repairs. Another option is applying waterproof membranes on your walls. Waterproof membranes are cost efficient and if applied properly, can last for a very long time. If given enough time to dry and cure, waterproof membranes can turn into a rock-hard layer that will prevent water from entering your basement year round. You can choose from two different types of membranes when waterproofing your basement: liquid membranes and solid membranes. If you choose a liquid membrane, youll have to apply it directly on to the walls and floors. After it has cured, the membrane hardens and prevents water from entering. Solid membranes are designed so that small pockets in its plastic material will collect water continuously. The collected water is then taken to a pre-installed drain in the basement. If the foundation of your basement is constructed of concrete blocks, then you should look into installing an interior drain tile system. Drain tiles are one of the oldest ways of carrying water away from the basement. An interior drain tile system can capture the water entering the block system and then drain the water into a sump. A plus of interior drain tiles is that they will provide a dry and moisture free basement for years to come. Another interior drainage system is baseboard drainage. Baseboard drainage is one of the most effective and cost-friendly ways to waterproof your basement. For this system, weep holes are made in the basement flooring and collect any water that may have entered your basement. The collected water is then carried away by baseboards to a mechanical pump or regular drain. Interior water drainage is not technically considered waterproofing, but has been widely accepted as a technique in mitigating basement water. It is also generally referred to as a basement waterproofing solution. Many interior drainage systems are patented as well as recognized by the Building Officials and Code Administrators as being an effective way to control basement water. To control the basement water entering your basement, choose any of the above listed options,
