Slide 1: ==== ==== Fill Your Bank Account During A Recession: Click Below www.ElectrifyYourDreams.com ==== ==== The topic on every tongue around the world is - you guessed it - the economic recession. It doesn't matter how long it's been coming, or what some expert predicted a year ago. It's now upon us, and no country that's economically interdependent on another can pretend it isn't. So what will you do about it? Recession Depression You could let it get to you. And it's easy enough to, when all around you is bad news. The fastest way for me to start feeling hopeless is to look at my bank balance and the state of my unit trust portfolio. And don't try and tell me previous generations have been through The Great Depression and they survived. We're talking about me here! Is there a positive side to the recession, any benefits of the economic recession, if you will? "What, are you crazy?" you say. Remember what Stephen Covey said? Between a stimulus and the response is a gap. That gap is the choice that you make. You can choose how you respond to a situation. If the recession is the stimulus, what is your response? Let's take a long-term view, a helicopter view even. What would this year look like five years, ten years from now? The kids might have graduated and moved out. We might even have retired. The point is, if things get better, as they usually do, we would have forgotten all about the global recession that we are in now. Other priorities and projects would have taken over the mental and emotional space that the recession is now squatting in. How To Survive A Recession But we still have to deal with the present, yes? So we need to know how to survive the recession. Here are a few pointers. Live simpler. Postpone the LCD TV and the second car. We know recession marketing can be terribly effective. $499 for a 32 inch LCD TV doesn't sound like much, but it's still $499 you could sock away into your home loan or school fees or savings. Instead of feeding your TV or computer addiction, go outdoors and get some sun and fresh air. Enlist the kids to help rake up the leaves. Have a friend and her kids over for a play date. Visit the library and borrow that self-help book you promised yourself to check out, or that novel the teens are raving about. Start growing a veggie patch so you can be a bit less dependent on Coles and Safeway. The best things in life truly are free...or cheap.
Slide 2: Recession Investing The experts are always reminding us to do the opposite of what the herd is doing. There's Warren Buffett and his "Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful." There are the property investment gurus who tell us that money is made when you buy, meaning you should buy at the right price. This is called counter-cyclical investing. You buy when the market is weak, prices are falling, and people are predicting that the sky will soon fall on our heads. You hold back and watch when the market is buoyant and other people are buying and selling at exorbitant prices. It takes tremendous confidence and discipline not to follow what everyone else is doing, but if you can have the means and you can keep your head, you may even do very well because of the recession. Recession Proof Your Business If you own a business, surviving the recession will be top on your agenda. How do you keep the cash flowing and the customers calling? One way is to go global. If you are a local business relying on local residents and businesses for support, consider expanding your network. Why confine yourself to your postcode? Someone on the other side of town may need your product or service and want to reach you. Someone on a different continent may want to do a deal with you. Don't let fear or complacency or ignorance stop you from going further than your competition. The best and most effective way to go global is to use the Internet. Set up a professional-looking business website and give your business extra visibility and credibility. When someone Googles for information on products and services related to your business, you want your listing to come up on the first page. How to achieve that is another issue. It's about finding the right solution provider to work with, one who knows all about what search engines and humans like, how to present your content to "get the click", how to get ahead of the other 185 million sites around and actually make enough money to replace your day job. Recession Proof Your Income Note I didn't say recession proof your job. No one can guarantee that. You can do everything within your power to keep your job, but if the company's stakeholders decide that job cuts are the way to go, there's nothing you can do about it. Hopefully, the redundancy benefit will be enough to keep you going until you find another job. If you're business-minded, you may even want to use the money to invest in a business opportunity of your own. Having said that, doing recession planning (preferably before the recession hits you) can give you a safety net and some peace of mind if you should lose your job or have to take a pay cut. Start looking for extra ways to make money. Take on a part-time job if you can. Give tuition, mow lawns, deliver the local paper. Whatever. Get rid of anything you don't need that can increase your bottomline. That bicycle you never used, or the extra hi-fi set. Look in your shed. Look in your
Slide 3: storage spaces. Few people live a clutter-free existence. Maybe your clutter can be converted into cash. A garage sale or a visit to your local Cash Converters might reap enough for a family day trip to the country. You never know. Here's another great recession buster idea that people all over the world are discovering. Get online. Use the Internet to start making money. I don't mean Get Rich Quick schemes, paid surveys or mystery shopping. I'm talking about building a real business (just like you would in the regular offline" world) and possibly making thousands of dollars a month. Would $5000 a month be enough to replace your current income? I know it would mine. Even an extra few hundred dollars a month could significantly ease the stress of a one-income family. I'm talking about taking something you know and love and do well - travel, handcrafted jewelry, writing, translation, teaching the piano - and turning it into a reader-friendly website that not only adds value by delivering useful, relevant information, but that can be honed into an extra source of income for you. Whether you want that income to replace your day job forever or to afford the occasional indulgence - that's up to you. In exchange, here's what you get: - freedom (work as much or as little as you like, hang out with your kids when you want), - lifestyle options (work from home, work by the beach, work in a park, work at the cafe), - something professional and current to add to your CV, - a sense of achievement ("I can do this!") - a sense of creative fulfillment and a way to stay engaged and alive - a way to connect with and help people who want or need what you're providing. So there you have it - the choice to survive the recession or thrive in spite of it. Adversity can sometimes be a disguise for life-changing opportunities. It's your call.
