Slide 3: RlMS: Objectives The Risk and Insurance Management Society works to advance the practice of risk management by providing members with: The most up-to-date industry information via publications and newsletters. Continuous professional development workshops, courses, webinars and other educational offerings designed to fit the needs of risk professionals of all levels, industries and backgrounds. Multiple networking opportunities at conferences, chapter meetings, workshops and through E-Groups.
Slide 4: RlMS: A Brief History 1932 – RIMS begins as the Insurance Buyers of New York under the Auspices of the American Management Association • • 1935 – The Insurance Buyers splits from the American Management Association to become the Risk Research Institute. Fun Fact 1950 – The National Insurance Buyers Association (NIBA) is incorporated as a non-profit organization to better meet the needs of insurance buyers throughout the US and Canada. Formal Chapters are created to better serve members. 1955 – Renamed as American Society of Insurance Managers (ASIM) to better reflect member needs. Fun Fact 1962 – Doug Barlow outlines the “Cost of Risk” concept in the National Insurance Buyer. • •
Slide 5: RlMS: A Brief History 1963 – The first National Conference takes place at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. 400 registrants attend. • 1969 – Risk Management Magazine is started! 1974 – Members vote on a new name to better reflect the responsibilities of their profession and the multinational membership of the society. The name Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) becomes effective on 1/01/1975. 1984 – RIMS signs up to IFRIMA. 2001 – www.RIMS.org is launched. 2007 – RIMS reaches 10,000 member mark! • • • •
