Slide 1: Keeping Burglars Away With A Home Security System Today, crime statistics are on the rise. As the economy gets weaker, more crime follows. Thieves are becoming more brazen and more determined. With crime rates on an upward trend, what can home owners do to protect themselves? Home security is a mind set. When it comes to the safety of your family and the sanctity of your home, you need to be prepared. An excellent way to keep your family safe and secure from criminals and thieves is to invest in a solid home alarm system. Today's home alarms aren't what they used to be. They are infinitely more sophisticated, as are today's thieves. Statistics actually prove that homes equipped with a home alarm system are three times less likely to be broken into. Even having a dog improves the chances of keeping your home burglary free. Burglars want to get in and out without any fuss. They do not want to be seen. They don't want to have to run away from barking dogs or home security forces. A protected home is less of a targetcriminals don't want the trouble. Your basic home security system consists of a control pad, a motion detector or sensor, magnetic switches on doors and windows and an alarm. The switches can be either wireless or wired. Wireless systems are more convenient in the sense that you do not have to do any retrofitting. Hard wiring a house can be pricey and it does involve a fair amount of tearing up walls and floor boards to put the wiring in place. Wireless systems, however are reliant on battery power, so they need to be check frequently. They also may be easy to disable, depending on how you have your system set up. A more advanced home security system includes video cameras, closed circuit monitoring, and a centralized monitoring center provided by your security company. Monitoring provides you with an extra layer of security as you will have trained security personnel keeping track of what's going on in your house. Moreover, security personnel may be easier to summon in an emergency situation than the police. Other more advanced features include infrared sensors which can be placed outside to create a perimeter; driveway alarms which can detect any intrusions in your driveway; fire alarms equipped with heat and temperature sensors as well as CO2 detectors; panic buttons for alerting authorities discreetly and easily; biometric locks; panic rooms etc. Having a home security system in place gives you peace of mind. It acts as a real deterrent. If a thief sees security decals on your window or if an alarm is activated while they are breaking in, chances are they will run. When choosing a home security system for your house, keep in mind that there are many choices out there, so do your homework. Thoroughly research companies. Ask your home insurance provider for suggestions. Ask your friends and neighbors to see what experiences they have had with their security companies and have a professional consultant come to your house to advise you on what works best.
