Slide 11: 2. Production of the International Signal Intention in all HD production with Stereo Sound; In some events with 5.1 Surround Sound. The picture will include (where applicable) virtual enhancements as part of the International Signal. Considering the aspect ratio 4:3 TV in the world has 80 – 90% of total TV Set. The production policy has to be decided later. Extended in Total Coverage: Total of 84 feeds with BMX cycling as new event (In Athens Games it was 75) Also increasing live coverage in: Badminton 3 feeds Table Tennis 4 tables covered live on separate feeds Tennis 3 courts live
Slide 12: 3. International Broadcast Centre (IBC) It is the headquarters for broadcasting operations during the Olympic Games. All television and radio signals for Olympic coverage will pass through the IBC under the direction of BOB. The IBC for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be located in the Olympic Green area and will house the BOB facilities and Rights Holders areas containing BOCOG offices and services areas. This location is convenient due to the fact that it offers: • Rights Holding Broadcasters easy access to the multiple sports venues, including the National Stadium. • Close proximity to the Main Press Centre (MPC) IBC Construction The shell of the IBC building and basic infrastructure design and construction is the responsibility of the North Star Consortium and is scheduled for completion in August of 2007. BOB will take possession of the building from BOCOG after the North Star Consortium has finished the infrastructure work.
Slide 13: 1. General Broadcast Flow Diagram and Technical Specifications for Video and Audio
Slide 14: 4.1 General Broadcast Flow Diagram
Slide 15: 4.2    General Video General Specifications The video picture aspect ratio of the International Coverage will be 16:9 High Definition 1080i interlaced scan lines at a rate of 50 field/s (25 frames per second). In those cases where an HDTV feed for the International Coverage may not be available, the video signal provided will comply to the 625 lines/50 fields interlaced set of standards. Digital Signal Format The digital signal format of the available HDTV signals shall comply with specification SMPTE 292-M HD SDI (EBU equivalent: S2 1080/1/25). The digital signal format of any SDTV available signals shall comply with the specification SMPTE 259-M SDI.
Slide 16: Level – At launch, the digital signals will have a peak voltage level of 800 mV. The DC offset, as defined by the mid-amplitude point of the signal, shall be nominally 0 V. Bit rate – The bit rate of the HDTV digital signal will be 1.485 Gbps. The bit rate of the SDTV digital signal will be 270 Mbps. Sampling Rate – The sampling rate for the HDTV component serial digital signal will be as follows: • Luminance: 74.25MHz/s. • Chrominance: 2x37.125 MHz/s. • The bit rate represents 4:2:2 sampling. • The world length is nominally 10 bits. Timing – All digital ITVR signals delivered to RHBs will be synchronised with respect to all other ITVR signals. Unilateral digital signals delivered to broadcasters will not be Synchronised by BOB.
Slide 17: Audio General International Radio and TV audio coverage will be in stereo. In selected cases the ISTV signal may be produced as 5.1 digital surround mix. Digital Audio Signal Format Audio carried in the digital video stream (either HDTV or SDTV compatible) will be synchronous with the video signal. Line-up level for the digital systems shall be at -18dBfs. Radio and TV International Sound in all cases will be embedded in the digital video stream. VTR Format The VTR format to be used by BOB has not been decided upon at the time of the printing of this document.

Slide 19: 6. Olympic in the Skies: It is the first time in Olympic History that the Host Broadcaster, BOB, is considering to set up a satellite platform to put major International Signals uplink to the satellite to enable Broadcast Right Holders to downlink the signals on a subscription basis. The cost is all depending on how many participants are in the pool; more participants less costs. Awaiting further information and decision from BOB.
Slide 20: 1. Venue Construction Situation: Various venues are undergoing constructions in quick pace, expecting to complete by 2007. ABU Facility Booking Policy & Procedure: It is highly desirable that ABU Secretariat to form a General Booking Policy & Procedure for the forthcoming “Beijing Olympic Games” Broadcast Operations, as this time the operational scale and complexity are far more bigger than last time in Athens. Members are requested to well plan their project and to follow all the working time schedule and procedure. 8. Thank you for your kind attention and cooperation. With best regards.
