Slide 3: Creating Factorial Designs - Page 1
Set up the Experimental Question & Design
Decide how many factors, what levels, type of design
Open Minitab From the Stat Menu, choose DOE → Create Factorial Design Choose the Number of Factors Choose the Designs Button
Slide 4: Creating Factorial Designs - Page 2
Select the specific design from the top window Choose: the Number of center points (if any) the Number of replicates (if any) the Number of blocks (if any)
Choose OK
Slide 5: Creating Factorial Designs - Page 3
Choose the Factors Button Fill in the Factors and their values Choose OK Choose OK The design is created in the worksheet
Slide 6: Analyzing Factorial Designs - Page 1
Open the Project in Minitab From the Stat Menu, Choose DOE → Analyze Factorial Design Choose the response Choose the Graphs Button Choose Pareto Plot Choose OK
Slide 7: Analyzing Factorial Designs - Page 2
If the design is replicated or a reduced model is being fitted, under Residual Plots, choose: Standardized Residuals Normal Plot Residuals versus fits Residuals versus order Choose OK If fitting a reduced model, choose Terms and select model terms using the > button
Slide 8: Analyzing Factorial Designs - Page 3
Choose OK Check diagnostics: Does the Normal Plot look like a straight line? Residuals versus fits look random? Residuals versus order look random? If not, try adding/removing model terms or a transformation of the data Pareto Plot: Can you distinguish important factors from the unimportant?
Slide 9: Analyzing Factorial Designs - Page 4
From the Stat menu, choose: DOE → Factorial Plots Choose Main Effects and Interaction Plots For each plot choose Setup and: Select the response Select all the factors with the >> button Select OK when done Determine important factors and/or interactions
Slide 10: Calculating Transformations
From the Calc menu, choose: Calculator Choose a name for the Store result in variable space Under Expression, create the function by using the calculator buttons (+,-…) or the functions listed in the Functions box Columns from the current worksheet are given on the left
