A lot of people are aware of Kindl eBook publishing and want to get their book published on the Kindle but don't know how to do it. Most people get discouraged by the technical burden and I can tell you that to be a book publisher it's not easy to begin this journey, but it isn't as complex as you think and if you can get past that it's fun. Writing A Book You can easily write your eBook in almost any word-processing program you want, like Microsoft Word or Open Office. But be aware that your eBook would need to be in one of the following formats for Amazon to accept it: Word (.doc or.docx) Mobipocket (.mobi or.prc) ePub (.epub) Adobe PDF (.pdf) HTML (.zip,.htm, or.html) Plain Text (.txt) Rich Text Format (.rtf) To have your book published on Amazon Kindle eReader, kindle direct publishing allows most DOC files for electronic book conversion; having said that, some .doc files that contain complicated formatting may not upload properly. So it is advisable to save it as Word document which is a.doc file, and not a .docx or .portable document file. Writing and creating your book can only be done with simple formatting like bold and italics, but for anything more advanced, for example, bullet points will not be compatible. It is good to insert images so long as you own the copyright, obviously. Your images should be inserted as .jpg files, and centered in the page. If you try to wrap your text around your images, it'll look good on your PC screen but it will not look as good on the kindle.
Slide 2: Your next step is to create your headline title pages and acknowledgments pages. You can insert a page break anywhere you require a hard page break to show up in your final Amazon Kindle eBook. There are a few technical challenges to take into consideration and you can learn more about these on my web blog. If you are really competent in word-processing, you will be just fine. If you're not, then you could always hire someone to do it for you. Trust me, it saves you the headaches, time and money! I'm not techie so I outsource this bit to people who know what they are doing because it's a lot cheaper and, obviously, you want to put your name on a book that will give your readers an excellent reading experience. Lastly, when you are done and satisfied with the look of it, you'll need to convert your document into a suitable Kindle format (MOBI/AZW/PRC). Create your cover image Most self-published publications look awful simply because they have very poor e covers. First impression still does count. Readers will be drawn to check your book out by your "Title" and "Image" and don't forget there are thousands of other books on Amazon as well so don't try to cut corners on your e cover image! Select your royalty option You can either decide to take royalties of 35% or 70%, less amount for delivery, so you will get rather less than that of 70% in reality but, in order to choose the royalty option of 70% you must fix your book price at between $2.99 and $9.99. Your eBook cannot contain public domain content material, you must make sure that the Amazon kindle selling price + 15% of VAT is equal to or less than the selling Price of any physical edition of your book - 20%. In essence, the 70% royalty is applied by Amazon as a method to make sure that the electronic digital publication is often more reasonably priced than any actual physical book and to ensure that your pricing is not too stupidly low or stupidly too high.
