You may be considered to have depression when you experience severe despondency and dejection for any length of time. This may be accompanied by feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy. You may lack an interest in life, the motivation to do anything or to concentrate. Basically you have little energy. This is hardly surprising given the despondency and dejection. Common treatment for depression is with the use of anti-depressants. This only gets at the effect of the depression, rather than the cause. Once you stop the drugs, the depression returns. And the drugs can have a detrimental affect on your overall health. This is not the healthiest long term solution. If you know the cause of your depression, then you can cure it easily. You may already know this or you may not have the remotest idea. First you need to look back to a time when you weren't depressed. Then come forward in time, until you hit the start. This may mean going back as far your childhood. What was going on in your life at this time? Be open, think laterally. And most of all, be honest with yourself. You may find this exercise painful. So do it in bite size chunks. Do a little at a time. The fear is far worse than discovering the cause. The cause of depression is always emotional, just as depression is. The most common causes of depression are the unresolved emotional feelings from the loss of a loved one (by death, divorce or child leaving home) or by unresolved feelings of fright, humiliation or violation. There are many more causes, but these are the most common - grief, shock, fright, anger. If you had been able to naturally express your feelings, you would not be depressed now. So in finding out how to cure depression, you need to be open to facing those old, suppressed feelings. Facing them and allowing them free expression (as long as no-one gets hurt) is the only thing you have to do. Don't encourage the thoughts and don't discourage them. Just allow them to express themselves freely. Don't try to understand them or have a logical answer for them. That's the wrong side of side of
Slide 2: the brain, you're trying to use. Just allow. Imagine your thoughts as actors on a stage. Don't get up on the stage with them, as then you are buying into the drama. Don't walk out the door as then you are denying them. Just sit in the audience, but not always focussing on the play. You may be surprised at just how quickly they vanish. They needed to be heard.
