Since it's implementation on 1st of August' 2008, eBay affiliates have kept their fingers crossed, anticipating and waiting to understand the new evaluation criteria of all ACRU (Active Confirmed Registered User) earnings from US. Since the quality score is to be asserted based on last 3 months of performance data, the whole process is still in it's infancy. eBay, the world's largest online marketplace has always been a cash cow for millions and will remain so as long as internet marketing continues to thrive. But the fundamental change in the ACRU payout structure for the biggest affiliate program of ebay i.e., "eBay US" now will radically change the way millions looked at eBay so far. One of the most talked over and controversial affiliate world discussion and criticism has been about eBay's move to launch a completely in-house affiliate program called EPN (Ebay Partner Network), following a separation from it's age old affiliate manager "commission junction". Gone are the golden days when you could earn $ 25.00 straight off by getting one new registered user to eBay, irrespective of the number of bids or sales you produced. Well now as per the new "campaign quality score", the lowest you begin with is $ 1.00 per ACRU. Yes you heard it right, $ 1.00. Don't fret. There is a super incentive waiting at the other end of the spectrum. If you have the nerves of steel and a brain wired for affiliate business, you can reward yourself with payments as high as $ 50.00, a dream figure for all affiliates to earn from just member registrations. Given the fact eBay has 69 million users as of now, and it just keeps attracting millions everyday from all across the globe. But the dreadful mistake would be to focus only at the ACRU earnings. There's some bit of smart work and precautions you need to take to secure high ACRU earnings. Previously under "commission junction affiliate program", an average site with maybe 250-500 visitors registering conservatively around 10-15 new registered users a month, you could easily make $ 250.00 - $375.00/mo (with exceptions) from ACRUs alone, regardless of how much volume of product sales your site made for eBay. (Quoted from my own experience and general consensus) Now the tables have turned. eBay redefined ACRU earning system which is now called "campaign quality score based ACRU tiers". What exactly is eBay Campaign Quality Score? How is it any better or worse? Simply eBay Campaign Quality Score is a value based Pricing, its about survival of the fittest. May the able eBay affiliate thrive, and the parasitic approach of thousands who just saw the online money primarily through ACRU earnings with no real sales or content, should see themselves dumped. That is how it followed. Much of the hysteric outburst and bitter tantrums pointing to eBay, found all over the internet is from ex-affiliates mostly, because they all got dumped. Slide 2: about ebay dropping thousands of affiliates overnight who brought "disengaging traffic". It didn't matter even if they got a lot of new members for eBay. Yes there's a very diplomatically explained letter mass emailed to all unworthy ebay affiliates. And that clearly stressed on the word "disengaging traffic". In plain words, it's an open declaration from the ebay bosses that whoever aspired to be a successful ebay affiliate should forget the ACRU earnings without generating real revenues for eBay. Under the new system, eBay will gauge the expected lifetime value of the new users sent to them and accordingly decide the quality score and not the quantitative score. Well much like grades in school. They have even put a new tool on the dashboard to check the quality score status every fortnight. The new Campaign Quality Report assigns a quality score for each of the campaigns that you may be running with 5 or more ACRUs. Or else the ACRU line on the graph won't be visible at all. The graph is to give you an idea of the ACRU payouts you will receive each month according to the quality of traffic sent to advertisers. Earnings will be between $0-$50 in quantum leaps. The higher the "quality" of your traffic, the higher the payout per ACRU. Campaign Quality score, Not Quantity Score. Let me explain in depth and clear out all the myths. By quality, eBay does not mean volume of traffic. It is not about sending 1000s of people. it's not about making thousands of people click on ebay impressions either. I was waiting for my own data from my campaigns before i thought of authenticating this. Yes all this explanation is validated by my own stats. In spite of being an ebay affiliate for long even my ACRU earnings are now a resultant of last 3 months of proceedings since everybody is now migrated to this system completely. And now comes some real facts and figures. If you are new, it should cheer you up to know that even with sites getting a mere 150 visitors to eBay a day are giving me $10 per ACRU (Designated as "Very low" score). And recently my ACRUs shot up to surprisingly $28 per registration (A level higher called "Medium Score") without any change in the no. of visitors or pattern. Only thing that is increased a little were the sales and number of bidding, maybe because of Christmas season ahead, not the visitors. This is an extremely important confirmation for further strategy planning. So in brief what governs the new ACRU earnings. More sales + Consistent sales = More ACRU earnings and Better Quality score. Simple formulae, isn't it? This only shows that you have to focus only and only on generating more sales consistently on ebay and not go on a niche store hosting rampage, with a divided attention. One hole in the campaign game will drain out all the bonus ACRU earnings. What does it mean? I will break it up into verified examples. Ebay quality score Situation 1 ( Brainless Hardwork) Suppose you were running 4 stores selling 4 niche items. And you have a collective visitor figure of 500 a month, wherein you have generated 20 ACRUs and $ 100.00 from sale commissions. So what's your net income for the month? 20 nos. @ $ 1.00per ACRU (as this volume of sale will be considered "low") + $ 100.00 from commissions = $120.00 (phew so little after so much of hardwork? )
Slide 3: Ebay quality score Situation 2 ( Money-Wise Smart Work) Suppose you have 1 store selling only 1 niche item and the no. of visitors are 200 only, (mind you 300 lesser than the situation 1) and you are making sales of only $ 100.00 very conservatively, and only 6 ACRUs so far. So this equates to 6 nos @ $28 (as this will be categorized as "medium score") + $ 100.00 = $ 268.00. (Well! now you know the secret to earn more money) Which situation would you choose? No points for guessing. Well previously you could simply have multiple ebay stores to increase the possibility of more and more ACRUs without too much care about the sales. The new system is the perfect way eBay has devised to pull the plug on such an approach? Pull the plug? i say it is for the best. So what is ebay score in my opinion? 1. It is superb. You not only have less headache of managing and improving lesser stores or campaigns but you can even make your ACRU earnings reach as high as $ 50.00, just by focussing on singular campaigns. The is a figure that can be easily compared with commissions earned from digital products or ebooks in a shot. So all that one has to do is aim for more visitors, yes but quality visitors who are inspired enough by your sales pitch and content to purchase products on ebay. 2. It will filter out the competition only to breed fine affiliates and encourage white hat marketing practices. Thus actually helping the better skilled lot earn faster. 3. You can completely monitor onsite and offsite SEO with greater ease with less campaigns at hand, and just hoping to earn on adsense and occasional ACRU earnings from multiple niche stores. I have complete regards to ebay for all these because I am seeing the difference myself having followed what i say. Great relief when i see more bucks for smarter inputs. Only initially you need to thoughtfully invest your time and quality content for your websites. Later it is just about value additions and counting fat incentives. A word of caution about a major factor that may crash your ebay score. Most often ebay affiliates have several niche stores which are either in the making or on hold, while simultaneously running other stores already pulling in visitors. But if suppose you have your campaign ID attached to the unfinished projects, your score might just drop to the bottom because of them. For ebay they are still campaigns which are not engaging any traffic at all and they will count. And since you will be evaluated at a publisher level, ebay will not take that for an excuse. Hence if at all you have stores in the making, don't tag a campaign ID or archive them temporarily in the ebay partner network campaign dashboard. When you are completely ready and confident of visitors and sales, launch it back in action. Again taking the example of grades in school, it's never about how many chapters have you memorized or the number of words in your vocabulary. It's always about how you have performed in your hour long examination and your overall performance report. I want to stress on this quality performance because many affiliates still seem to be a little confused. Since it's not about quantity of traffic, it implies that you could well be earning more from ACRU than another affiliate with double or maybe triple the traffic as yours, if the traffic sent by you is more worthy to eBay than your colleague. To be precise, if visitors sent by

So if you are starting to believe that the previous super eBay affiliates, who already have a steady stream of traffic to their websites are going to hog on $ 50.00 every ACRU and you are never going to match up to their equations, you are wrong. Or i say, this is our biggest chance and hope. Because now every ebay affiliate, super or not so super, are all in the same boat. The concerns are common for both seasoned affiliates and the newbies. It is not about previous track records anymore. Everything for everyone starts afresh from now. One has to work his/her way up to be called a super affiliate all over again because the definitions have changed. I say it works best because competition begets better business models. And this system will breed the cream of able, willing, hardworking, knowledgeable affiliates and discourage people who aren't enterprising enough or are using blackhat techniques. This new quality score is exclusively for your ACRU payout for the US affiliate program. The scores translate into ACRU payment as follows. Very High = $50 / ACRU High = $40 / ACRU Medium = $28 / ACRU Low = $10 / ACRU Very Low = $1 / ACRU Lots of discussions in forums has been about how much traffic equates to what quality score. But I have already explained that volume of traffic isn't the governing factor. Your entire concentration should be on how to get quality traffic to earn more money. How to improve the ebay quality score ? Loud and clear. The score is independent of individual campaign level statistics. It is only the cumulative analysis for all your campaigns together over the last evaluation cycle. So by this system eBay will easily be able to flush out all non-revenue generating campaigns, whosoever it may concern. This is the how ebay will make sure that you stay engaged to supervise quality traffic. If you see any of your campaign not doing well in terms of sales, you will be compelled to drop it completely. Thus eBay will save money on non profiting campaigns. Lower sales = $ 0.00 or $ 1.00 for new registrations. It wouldn't matter if a failing campaign is getting you more ACRUs than the other. What finally counts is more income for eBay. It could well be a reality that you see some great sales happening and a lot of active confirmed registered users from all your campaigns combined, but by the next fortnight release of the quality score, all that joy and victory could be dampened because of one single ailing campaign. And your deserving $ 28.00 or $ 50.00 per ACRU maybe grazed to $ 1.00 in 15 days flat. Anybody like me who has earned that easy sure-shot money of $ 25.00 per registration for such a longtime, can't harp lesser about ACRU earnings' importance. Many may find it hard to even adapt to the new low of $ 1.00 after years of dependence. Because at the end of every month what mattered so far was how much money you have made, irrespective of which ebay website/campaign earned you most and which one did lesser. Things have changed, you can't afford to get campaigns dipping the quality score. You will have to constantly be on a vigil, monitoring the quality rate of each and every campaign on eBay. That is how ebay has it's point made. And why not, they are the masters of the online auction and bidding market generating
Slide 5: millions of sales everyday. What About Me? I survived the ebay migration because from day one i knew the importance of quality websites and information driven traffic. All my campaigns always revolve around high quality content. And hence i didn't get that dreaded letter. How is the new Quality Score any better or worse? 1. I say it's brilliant. It surely will give rise to non-adulterated, pure ebay Infopreneurs. Information is money, content is king. True, that is why i still stand unaffected by the transition. Yes! I garner quite a lot of traffic to all my ebay stores combined. Stores which i took great care to develop with quality content for the customers so that they visit over and over again. My policy has always been, take up a niche and dominate it. And it isn't impossible but surely is time consuming to develop unique content and applying SEO knowledge. Unfortunately, ebay has been milked by many who depended only their earning ACRUs and have resorted to unadvisable practices to make people registering on eBay. An unprecedented number of shallow websites with only product impressions, adsense and affiliate links can be seen all over the internet not adding to any real value or information. It's a mistake people make. Always update a buyer with the righteous, the pros and cons of a product he is paying up for and don't just try to encash on them. Or else in the long run, you may end up paying for it dearly either by losing your domain, google penalization or affiliate program rejections. In the current ebay scenario such thin sites with no real value addition for repeat customers, will eventually phase out leaving only the true affiliates to thrive. 2. Ebay rules. So technically you don't have a choice. It's either take it or leave it situation. And if you are ready for the challenge it could do you good. You will learn true affiliate marketing. eBay always earns you. So for me it is out of question, no matter how many affiliate programs I am a member of, I have high regards for ebay market place as a sure shot way of earning money and experimenting SEO on the stores for immediate results. The best thing about selling ebay items is that the customers are guaranteed to surface on the search engines in huge numbers. It's only upto you, how well you supplement them with the right information and draw them to your website. (Oh yes if you are willing to see the true worth of eBay affiliate program, do it only through niche websites and not through any other means) How to improve eBay Campaign Quality Score? (EPN quality score) 1. Focus only on trying to drive sales on eBay and not just the registration of new users. Call it sad or a malpractice that many affiliates have lured visitors with prize money or gifts if they registered with ebay because they only saw their revenue of $ 25.00 and cashed in on it. Such incentivized registration to eBay have penalized thousands of affiliate their membership and traffic overnight. So please don't make the same mistake. 2. Concentrate on having returning customers. Create ways to keep driving visitors back to eBay for additional purchases. Develop fresh content that users would like to read, have interesting anecdotes, send newsletters about new product arrivals and category additions. Create a loyal customer base who would are willing to come back for fresh deals. 3. Optimization is the keyword in all. Spend as much time, energy and focus you can on search engine optimization. Don't ignore it, thinking it is the work of educative sites. Even for eBay stores
