Social Anxiety Disorder is characterized as a fear of social situations. People with this disorder can experience anxiety when going into public, driving a car, or basically anytime they interact with, or even think of interacting, with people. "People" are generally strangers but can be anyone including friends, family members, or the cashier at the grocery store. People with Social Anxiety Disorder, like anyone with anxiety, are susceptible to panic attacks. Proper knowledge and treatment can help someone with SAD overcome his or her fears and reduce the risk of having a panic attack. Many of the side effects are not always obvious to those experiencing SAD. Many people with SAD do not recognize the symptoms and may think "what is wrong with me?" or that he or she is just shy. But the truth is that SAD is a mental disorder, out of the control of the person experiencing it, that can lead to panic attacks, depression, and many other ailments if left untreated. Familiarizing oneself with some of the less common side effects of SAD can help determine if you or someone you know is being affected by SAD. Some of the misread, or less common, symptoms of SAD are: 1. Stomach problems such as ulcers 2. Excessive blushing 3. Profuse sweating 4. Having difficulty speaking or having a shaky voice 5.
