This is mostly a true saying, and those who say it's not true are usually pointing to the smaller part of the picture. What they mean is that if you don't know how to optimize and monetize good content, then it gets you nowhere. Optimization and monetization however are simple skills, which once learned can be dispensed with, at least in these sense that you don't have to learn them again. Creating good, meaningful, and unique content however is a constant challenge. Once you've used what you have, then its back to the drawing board. It's also what people are really hungry for. If you're short on material on a particular subject, chances are you can find 10 closely interrelated either free, or 99 cent ebooks on that subject. The technique I've developed is to simply immerse myself in the reading on that subject until I'm basically sick of it. Even though 10 ebooks is only on average about 300 pages worth of material, ebooks are usually more condensed and to the point than regular books. In terms of being able to generate material for yourself, this offers a big advantage, in that it gives you the basic framework of knowledge without filling in too many details, which you can create yourself. Then after you've gotten to know you're niche subject really well, and you're starting to brim with your own ideas, you can start the process of writing your own stuff. If you get blocked, then you can ethically refer to one or more of your ebooks for subject ideas. No one owns a basic concept, or subject matter. Just use a core concept to get you started, then you'll naturally start to recombine and recreate everything you've learned into your own "unique" content. I used to completely overlook the value of ebooks, thinking them to be just some spam-ish add-on to other products which had no other purpose but to get me to buy something. Now I love them, and realize what an incredible value they are, in all sorts of ways. Basically after you're able to produce you're "unique" content with sufficient experise, getting traffic to flow to your website or blog is pretty easy. You just find some method of getting it out there, like your own free ebook which contains a back-link to your site, or an article submission, or your own blog posts which you can promote on social bookmarking sites. The whole trick is learning whatever it is well enough so that your own voice and ideas can come
