On many beginner websites you will see a disclaimer statement added to the bottom of a page, stating which web browser and/or screen resolution the site is best viewed with. Your site visitors will view this as a sign of an amateur web designer. Invest some time to learn how to design a website that runs well in multiple browsers, and the most common screen resolutions. 3. Visitors don’t like scrolling horizontally – it makes it difficult to read content properly. 4. Another mistake many people make when creating a website is to cram as much information, photographs, images, etc. on each page as possible. If your page does not load rapidly, visitors will quickly move on to find another site. Try to reduce the weight of your pages. 5. Make sure you study and follow a good CSS tutorial to learn the basics. 6. Some people disable right clicking on their website to protect their images. This irritates a vast majority of people who use right-click for legitimate reasons. These are some tips to make sure hackers don’t get access to your website: 1. Default or blank passwords: are like invitations to hackers. The most secure kind of password is one that utilises the ‘shift’ key more than once, and is changed often. 2. Hackers monitor reports for new vulnerabilities and rely on the fact that the administrator won't install patches immediately. You do need to install patches manually, so that you know exactly what has been installed. 3. If your CMS is written in PHP and you are using PHP 5 or earlier, one more thing you need to check right away is if register_globals is on. If register_globals is on, you must turn it off immediately because when it is on, there are millions of ways in which this can be misused to hack your site. 4. Give users limited access to your website – only those parts they will need so that they can carry out their jobs. One of the risks of generous user privileges is that the credentials can be used for internal hacking.
