Slide 4: Caring for others
• Caring for others may be something that you have never
deeply considered before • To be a good nurse aide, you will have to define “caring” for yourself • The human activities of your day will circle around meeting the present needs of the patients you are assigned to—assisting with their meals, with their grooming, and keeping the nursing care room in order, and so forth • Each of these duties is important to the patient, they are only part of your caring
Slide 5: Defining Care
To define caring it may help to think of the
times you have felt will cared for What was said and done, and what did you feel? Was it being fed or clothed—or more? What was it that really made you feel cared for?
Slide 6: Love
• Most likely, the caring was motivated by love • Your physical, mental and spiritual needs were
recognized and met to the best of another’s ability • This unselfish love is an expression of what Mrs. Eddy refers to as “The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science…” (Science and Health, p. 113:5-6) • It is the action of God, Love--it is “the heart and soul of Christian Science,” it is the substance of Christian Science nursing
Slide 7: Basis of your Ability to Nurse
In the Church Manual, Mrs. Eddy defines a Christian
Science nurse, in part, as one who can provide “proper care of the sick” This will call on you to meet human needs in practical ways You will need to know what to do and how best to do it What will guide you in his work? Your training? Your common sense? Of course these will help you, but spiritual discernment is what you will need to nurture.
