Slide 1: Green Datacenter: Datacenters With Reduced Carbon Footprints Globalization of business brought in demands for a faster and secure access as well as larger storage facilities for critical data and information. The advent of data centers with high-end systems and large storage racks provided the required end-to-end business continuity solutions. But most of the data centers were designed and built to meet the high performance requirements and high level of availability with little or no attention to the power consumption capacities. However, the growing concerns over the rate of power consumption by the data center and the operational costs involved, has helped organizations to understand the impact of the resulting carbon emissions into the environment. These have promoted Green data center initiatives by most of the IT giants and service providers. Today, with energy efficient data centers which has minimal impact on the environment, the green data center has become the catchphrase of the business world. The green initiatives include conversion of the existing data center or construction of new data centers. The changes in the existing ones would include technology, facility and management changes. The construction of new data centers would mean use of advanced technologies, strategies and low-emission building materials. However, with the use of cloud computing technology, datacenter virtualization, power management and consolidation of data center functions to less expensive geographical locations, organizations can shift the gear to green data center. These new age green datacenter provided by the leading IT outsourcing giants, works on business models, which can help them to provide their clientele with a unified service delivery framework. With a focus on the core competencies and a phased methodology, these leaders strive to provide a seamless, cost effective and sustainable end-to-end solution including datacenter hosting. The phased methodology includes an assessment framework for assessing the energy usage and carbon footprints of the existing data center environment. Following this by a gap analysis and feasibility study, it works out the transformational activities required. A detailed roadmap of data center optimization, recycling, and resource planning completes the design phase. With the completion of the implementation phase, the datacenters are ready for green data certification. Read more on - Identity and access management, Managed security services
